Frustrating Moments As Commander

My absolute worst comming experience was on ns_hera.
Basically, I had the aliens down to one hive, all my team were heavies and we were about to march on the final hive...
Then all of my veterans on the marines (3), and were replaced by utter noobs. They would NEVER stick together, and NEVER followed the waypoints. Total disobedience. We had 300 res at one point, and all heavies. I gave up comming in frustration and joined the alien side, 5 minutes later, marine base at Hera was gone and they relocated to a hive site with 10 res left. They lost. What noobs.
Ugh, I had to get that out of my system.

When the aliens are competent, even basic mis-steps by the marines can lead to real upsets. Its sad, because that causes part of me to think that aliens are unbalanced, when the actual situation is that its really the marines that just can't afford to make selfish decisions.
I was on their last hive shottying it when out comm dcs. i see about 3 skulks coming "quick med spam me" the reply "whats a med?" ARGH!
I died then he handed out ha to 2 guys who had changed from NSPlayer after they joined the team and said he couldnt afford to give me anything. WE LOST! after getting the final hive down to nearly dead we lost.
but i guess as the saying goes, you can pick your nose, but you cant pick your teammates. and you definately cant pick your teammates noses.
I'm tired of a very specific group of people. I'm tired of people who have only been playing this game since 2.01 came out or later, who do this: join NS maps, stack marines, but then, once the game starts, pretend to be AFK or sprint out of base or what I hate worst, walk up to the CC and turn around and expect the person they look at to be compelled to hop in the chair and command a perfect game. And if whoever hops in the chair is taking the opportunity to try and learn to play RTS games for maybe the second time EVER, Cap'n McLeetvet will start slinging verbal harrassment, start the eject vote, and generally do their best to let everyone on the server know that new players are unwelcome in NS.
This is just a heartfelt "F off and go play with yourselves" to that entire contingent of the NS community. Keep complaining about people coming from CS to play your mod like the pretentious teenage dickholes you are. At least CS is balanced and intuitive enough for everyone to play on a level field.
An example from 2.01 ns_bast:
Relocate to main aft, top tech, lvl3 HA HMGs, plenty of res, two-hive lockdown (refinery and generator - or was it engine? meh), and then, for some dark and sinister reason, marines refused to take on their last hive, and slowly, one by one, all died to a single fade and a couple of skulks in the big rooms of refinery. I am sure we lost like 40 HAs, and once the aliens actually took refinery back, they even won ... though i didnt use my microphone that game, the point of bizarre lack of teamwork and effort simply infuriated me.
3.0 ns_lost:
iirc, two-hive lockdown (phase gates in los paranoias and equilibrium, a decent res situation, and again, the lvl3/3 HA HMGs). For some strange reason, the marines were determined to kill this skilled fade, by chasing him all the way from alpha, to external overlook, los paranoias, base, and all the way back. for 30 minutes we did NOTHING but chase a SINGLE fade, instead of just making our way into cargo. again, we lost like 40 HAs because of this stupidity. ALthough, i did not have my microphone plugged in, it doesnt help all that much, as i will describe within the last two examples.
3.0 ns_veil:
From the start of the game, marines ran off to get topographical. Fine with me, we need res towers! I was less pleased when i saw that a single 1-hive skulk with no upgrades took out 7 marines on his own, as they all just walked in there one by one. within two minutes, he went fade. I remember it as if it were yesterday (hell, it WAS yesterday) and i was quite angry for the lack of teamwork and common (ns) sense.
3.0 ns_ayumi:
Alien hive was AE35, the initial res situation was under control, and we had a pg/tf combo in cold turn, outside hamasaki. Suddenly we found the other hive going up. I drop a phase gate for the two marines at the location. One of them decided to shoot the gorge covered by two DCs instead of building the phase gate. I drop shotguns at base, only to find only two of my team actually using the phase gate. A fade comes along and owns all, while the rest of the team whines about me being slow with dropping a res tower at Oxygen. Already infuriated, i see the marines arsing about for two more minutes, when i suddenly notice my entire team being at Oxygen AGAIN. I use a beacon, yell "use the phase gate!" through my voice, am already spamming medpacks at hamasaki, desperate to save the last object keeping us from losing the game, only to see one marine phase and die. I scroll back to base, and what do i see? 5 marines merrily getting ammo, and another 3 marines whining for the rt in Oxygen. At this point my anger was beyond control, and although the only thing that i did to show that anger was typing "nubs" out, i really felt like punching some people. I jumped out of the comm chair and wandered off somewhere, as the poor soul that jumped in after me got a phase gate up in one of the hives. I get it up, two guys phase, i look at the minimap, and what do i see? Yes. 6 marines asking for a resource tower in Oxygen.
And although this is prolly gonna get me remarks like "its just a game", for me, its a game that can be quite a lot more than just a game, and ultimately ending up in pure frustration and anger.
Because the commander can ruin an entire game for marines, much as nub gorge could back in 1.04. Off hand, I can't think of many mods where *one* player can by *legal* means ruin the game for their team entirely. CS? Certainly not, short of exploiting or hacking. Sure he can grief a few people, but not the team. DoD? Short of tking his whole team on an FF server with no tk limit, nope. TFC? Old detpack trick, but that's about it.
NS? Recycle everything. Don't do anything. Don't listen to your marines. Don't take advice when you're in the chair. It's one thing to have marines co-operate with you; but when you are essentially handing them suicide, don't expect them to cooperate.
-calldown
Because i won't drop the PG they started a vote to eject me and suddenly i was standing next to the CC just to see the next comm (admin) loosing the game.
Guess i never screamed THAT loud in my mic
It seems odd to me that comms think they can scream at marines (noob and otherwise), but the marines can't scream at the comm. In NS, you will get harassed, one way or the other.
When I first started commanding, people would harass me all the time. I just stuck to it. Typically their eject votes wouldn't work, unless it was some clan server where a clan member HAD to command, even if he sucked.
Anyway, don't expect to command and not get yelled at... you yourself most likely yell at n00bs, whether they're comms, marines, gorges, etc.
It swings both ways, so you just have to deal with it and not get discouraged.
Started the game with a mere 4 players, and noone wanted to comm, so i got in (first time properly comming btw ), built an armoury and two ip's, all was well, a skulk or two wandered in but the rines took care of them. Then i told them to get to the double res and build it up. I should never have even asked, "i want a tf in base" "can i get a shotgun". One of them finally goes to double res, but by this time the aliens already have one of the nodes and have built their second hive. Another guy joined the team and started spamming for a shotgun, now there's 3 people at base whining for assorted things like TF's, shotties etc, and one guy who's desperately trying to capture the double res on his own against a gorge, 3 OCs and 2 DC's.
Next, two fades started attacking our base, and it became evident they now had 3 hives up (they were acid rocketing us). THE WHOLE TEAM starts complaining "oh if only you'd given us shotguns", even though i never had the res because we only had one RT. The fades are completely owning our base, but by a miracle, the guy who was attacking double res had gotten himself lost and was hiding in an isolated room somewhere, ajacent to an RT. I drop a comm chair next to him, telling him to build for his life, but (this astounds me) he says "not before i get a shotgun". HE WOULDN'T BUILD THE COMM CHAIR BECAUSE HE WANTED A SHOTGUN! All the while the rest of the team (dead) are all talking and saying "ooh why can't i spawn, what happened to our ip's?". It took me another 2 minutes to convince the guy next to the comm chair to build it , by which time my comm chair had died and so had i.
Then in amazement, I watched, as he finished the comm chair, got inside, bought himself a shotgun using up the last of our res (i was hoping to save it for the ip), got out, picked it up and then ran into the adjacent room (colonised by the aliens by now) and got killed by an OC.
gah
400 res. All heavies. Controlled 8 RTs.
I gave up comming in frustration BECAUSE THEY WOULDN'T MOVE TO THEIR DAMNED WAYPOINTS!
Some other guy took over, tried to siege a hive, failed.
We had all heavies and 700 res at the point. He got angry, recycled everything, and spammed CCs all across the map.

Another marine runs up and gets the other set. First thing he does with it is run out of base... right into an onos gullet. He quits the game, while I'm shooting the onos in Marine Start, so he immediately gobbles me up to take his place. :/
After a few minutes in wich those morons... oops, sorry again... in wich my teammate did almost nothing but ask my about my age, where I live, if I was solo, how big my breasts are and if they could get my email address or a pic the first Fades occured and took care of our base within seconds.

my worst experience, on ns_nothing:
Had Cargo and Generator Farmed up, with like 8 turrets each, elec rts and tfs, and 2 tfs in Gen.
We also had Miasma and that rt close to cargo.
So naturally, we get HA, and the the train moves off to silo. The train for some reason then STOPS outside power, screaming for phase, tf and seiges, cause they're afraid of a fade, a skulk or 2, and 4 ocs.
So I give them the phase, tf and seiges. I ping, the hive goes boom, but then 2 onos come into gen and start wrecking it. I tell the marines to go phase back and save gen, but they're shouting for an rt and ammo. So I bacon them and tell them to phase. I tell them to go defend cargo, but they all hump the armoury. By now, gen is gone, and MT says they're going to cargo. So I spam the waypoint at cargo, and yell at them to get there. instead, they ALL GO BACK TO POWER and demand the rt. End result, the aliens get cargo, the HA start rambing, they take power back, and we lose.

OMG a girl! Check PM pls.
Was comm on ns_caged. Had both cargo and powersilo hives locked down. 3/1 with HMG and Jetpack. Instructed the marines to go to red room to siege. Saw how my 5 jetpack hmg got killed by 2
100% true, too.

lol owned ^_^
Setting all internet geek humor aside...
I swear, it seems that whenever I comm, I get the worst batch of marines ever to play NS.
COMM OMGZ! DROP ME A HMG!!!!!
Another time, this noob bitched at me and his teammates for not building IPs at marine spawn when we relocated to double on mineshaft. At least my veterans were on my side.
Oh the humanity.
Basically, what we are learning here is that if the marines make only a few mis-steps, the aliens can capitalize on this and regroup for a win. I don't believe the same thing is true of the marines when the aliens make mistakes. I'm working on an essay about this. I'll hand it in for you people to grade...

But recent event that **** me most was a game on eclipse - we had total control of map, lvl2 armor, lvl2 gun, MT, CC secured, aliens cornered in eclipse - total control over map even though aliens had very good team, i was preparing to siege that last hive, yet marines suddenly decided to eject me (nobody said anything) for no reason :-) Of course, after eject no1 went comm for 4 minutes and aliens during that time killed all res and even liberated CC with fades.. eventually marines lost already won game :-)

Pwned. But hey, at least I got the hive names right!
Right, it must be due to my extreme incompetency that my 3/1 JP-HMG squad got eaten by skulks in the red room in ns_nothing
You can't deny the fact that during the end-game period, the players do get complacent as well.
Have you read any of teh stories? like how the marines do nothing but ask for shotties or some other stupid stuff?
Most of the "dramatic comebacks" here could've been prevented by a little common sense or a few brain cells.
An entire squad of heavies isn't gg, but when they all go to the opposite end of the map from where they're supposed to go, despite the fact there's a com yelling at them that it's the wrong way, and the waypoint is flashing in thier hud, it's not the "incompetent comms" fault.
I just commed a game yesterday on ns_eclipse where it took me 3-5 mins to secure horseshoe, maint, SAA, and south loop. at 5-7 mins, after a failed rush into cc, I dropped shotties and seiged out cc. After that, we had 3/1 with lvl 2 armour on the way, and everyone had an hmg, shottie, or gl. Then it took 10 mins to get the marines to take southern access hallway or w/e it was next to EC. The aliens weren't putting up much of a fight at all, but the marines wouldn't settle down enough to build a single phase. and then the marines couldn't blast into the hive, so I had to set up a 7 seige salute from the hallway.
They went from a totally disciplined team into a buncha kill-seeking rambos in the space of 1 minute.
On a less flamish note: I remember how a nub marine once kept asking for jps and shotties the entire game. All he did was whine and tell the aliens how dumb his com was cause he wasn't getting jps and shotties.

That's strange, the girl comms I know tended to have better teamwork under them, because their voices seem to be easier to hear, and the people actually listen to them, instead of mr. macho too-low-to-be-heard guy comms. I've never seen anything like this, though on aliens that tends to be a different story, for some reason. Just my impression. Or maybe it's just me.
An angry comm is a good comm on a pub server.
