Which things in NS are the most important?
Here are mine:
1. Teamplay
2. Atmosphere
3. Gameplay
4. Realism
or Teamplay > Atmosphere > Gameplay > Realism
The main reason I play NS instead of games like CS or WC3, is because its not as braindead as CS, and it has a bit more action(gameplay) than WC3, while having(had) a superior Atmosphere...But most importantly, NS is the one game ive played that had such high demands on teamplay. And frankly, im a bit sad that combat has started to change all this.
This is it, I just wanted to know how you people though.

Also since you have not choosen from any specific list I'll just make up my own generalised list too:
1. Teamplay
2. Varition and Levels of Skill
Forlorn, when was the last post youve made without the word 'skill'?

I cant really rank mine but the things I feel are important are:
Teamwork
Gameplay
The varied natures of your opponents (different skill levels/strats)
Atmosphere
NS requires team play and that makes it different not better.
Gameplay- of course this has to be good or no one would play.
Atmosphere- I personally like a more competitive atmosphere and a mature one too. In 1.04 the community was much smaller and I was always running into people I knew on different servers and the players were more at the same skill level, which was much higher then the players now. It did make it extremely annoying when you had someone just starting to play come in and it was extremely obvious, b/c of everyone elses high skills. Now there seems to be at least one new person per server and few elite players and no servers for elite players(elite players now were average back then).
I DO NOT fauly the NS creators for wanting their game to be more popular and maybe make some money off of all THEIR time, but I DO hate how the atmosphere has changed and wish there were just better servers out there. Of course you dont seem me making a server, so I cant complain much.

Because that way you can pass off anything without having a decent excuse
Teamplay is most important because it's what differentiates NS from the rest.
Gameplay is never far behind, if the game isn't fun, why the hell am I playing? (and this is where all those comments about variety come into play)
Atmosphere is next, a game can be fun without good atmosphere, but good atmosphere won't make a game fun.
Realism? C'mon, we're dealing with a game where we've got aliens made out of fungus, technology that can zap people from place to place through nothingness but hasn't figured out how to automatically load a gun, armor that can withstand some sort of bio-acidic cloud, but you can still drown in it. Bullets that can detect when they're about to hit a marine, but a flashlight that can't light up a bathroom. A supposedly constantly evolving race that always sticks its home base in the same locations..
No.. realism has never made any sense for me as a reason for anything in NS.
gj to all the NS team and continue the good work
I think I would prefer it more if it was more like an Aliens movie, where the group of marines are watching each other's back in a dark room, and aliens swarm from nowhere.
1. The fact skill has too much impact over teamwork still. (This is speaking as an ex-clan player, who still happily sits in at least top 3 pretty much every game and often mercs for UK clans.) I feel excellent teamwork by average players should overcome individual play by skilled ones, as I always believed that was what NS was about. More implemented in later versions, but still too individual skill based.
2. The game playing like it's background. (Flying Fades, Onos being hit & run rather than rampaging death machines etc.) This in turn brings atmosphere and encourages new & old players to stay. This was lost during the 2.x development I think.
3. Bugs.
4. Expansion.
The reason I leave bugs so low is because anyone downloading NS should already know this is a mod, in it's beta stages still, and should be treated as such.
1) Immersion - 5 - this deals with a combination of visual environment and aural environment. I play most games to "experience an alternate reality" where I am actually in the game performing my given role. This is very much relative to the different maps being played so can vary from map to map. For NS some maps pull this off VERY well and others fall quite short of par.
2) Gameplay - 6 - this deals with several elements including temwork, game mechanics, balance of mechanics, and map balance. After all, a game without good gameplay is hardly a game worth playing. NS is still a beta so some of its lack of balance as far as gameplay mechanics take a small toll on the score, but more taxing is the map balance. I particularly do not enjoy being able to guess the outcome of the game with fair reliability based on knowing the map (assuming somewhat balanced skilled teams).
3) Community - 7 - it is pretty nice when you can play a game with other people that also enjoy the game. The social interactions can create small mini-communities on the internet that can be very rewarding for an individual that is otherwise less than social in the real-world. Nevertheless, the social inclusion and acceptance regardless of other social defining factors is enough to merit its importance. NS has a particularly good community of players that are fun to play with and communicate with. However there is a rift between the self-proclaimed "elite" and those otherwise not "elite" that is somewhat disturbing. The occasional cheater or lamer is not really a factor of this score as they are pretty much universal to any game you play.
4) Originality - 8 - while not the most important factor to a game, original game mechanisms, storyline, and realities (visuals, aurals, physics) lend to a games ability to draw and hold players as similar content is not readily found in other places. NS has a particularly refreshing Classic game mode that is pretty revolutionary in its concept. Future refinements of this game type would easily raise the score for Originality as well as possibly affecting the Gameplay score as well.
5) Content Dynamics - 4 - this deals with how the game will be altered in addendum to its original content be it through storyline, gameplay features, or technology inclusion. These are things such as official bonus packs (UT-esque), expansions (NWN-esque), and/or plot/quest extension (MMORPG-esque). NS devs claim further iterations of NS but have been somewhat vague to any expectations of content extension from what is already in existence now beyond graphical improvements and possibly further refinements of gameplay. The NS community does however have a pretty active mapping/modding community that make additions to the existing game fairly accessible.
my 2 pennies worth.
The units at commands are actualy HUMAN. thus they are creative, diverse human beings.
on the down side, they might be total nublits who get confused at the sight of a wall.
but thats part of the fun anyways.
Plus I love how fast and fun the combat is NS.
plus their is buildings. (I like buildings, I can make OC smily faces in powercore. using the RT as a nose)
2) Content - I wouldn't like to be ripped apart by an alien dog or be dinner for a 12-ton rhino/bull alien hybrid
3) Variation of skill and strategy - Like Forlorn said. The more the difference in skill, the more diverse the strategies.
4) Backstory - Says all.
5) Uniqueness - NS is one of the most unique games on the HL game, pushing HL to its limits.
It was reading the manual that intrigued me. Teamplay just falls in natural anyways..
Together they create gameplay.
PB wins ^_^
