Launchcast

make yer own stashun
k this is probably very old news, I only heard of it a few months ago, and I only tried it today... but launchcast is seeming uber-neat. you tell it what genres and artists you like, and then it will make you a radio station out of those and similar artists... and each new thing it plays you can rate, so that it learns what kinds of music you love and you hate... it seems impressively smart, it played exactly two songs I loathed near the beginning, but since then it's played dozens of songs I've loved...

basically if you're sick of your MP3 collection, give it a whirl. free AND legal! =P

Spybot gave me a spyware warning, so be careful. I'm still using it though...

It IS spyware. Think about it is finding out what type of music you like to listen to. But its a good spyware.

Yeah, it's old. Nice feature, but I rarely use it because I like only particular songs, and not entire genres.

HAHAHA! I get to do my "I am leeter then you b/c I knewz aboutz this"

yah, I used to use launch, stoped when their streams started to die alot and when they put commercials on (used to be commercial free)

Now I tend to just use digitaly imported

    Note:
    You can rate everything:
    Song
    Album
    Artist
    Genre

A fun thing to do is find some one who has ALOT of ratings and then jsut go through their user page and ranke everything that you know (you quickly will teach launch what you do/don't like)

Thansal(might be Thansal1) should still exist if you ever wana tune into my craptastic station.

DI's the only thing good for me. LAUNCHcast didn't work for me, gave me an error or something.

too bad some of you are getting errors... and I'm not surprised about the spyware thing, because as daza said, it's pretty obvious that they're collecting data about your music prefs...

launchcast seems to be a popular thing for people at work -- a lot of work ppl don't have the option to stash tons of MP3s on their work computers, so this is a nice alternative. I know work is where I'll be listening to it.

thanks Thansal for the advice on how to broaden the thing's understanding of me :>

btw the ads don't seem overbearing at all; basically about every 3 songs, there's a 15 second announcement that you should look at the ad in the launchcast window, which I never do. me being used to 2-5 minute radio and TV ads, I laugh at the 15 second ads...

yah, its a nifty enugh toy, I still prefer just bookmarking a few of my fav shoutcast stations (generaly I actualy just use Digitaly imported).

Another nifty toy for Launch is that you can pull up any music video they have, its not like the normal station where you can't pull up songs

Edit: Oh, and as for spy ware?
I dono, but I wouldn't be surprised (its Yahoo)
and 'collecting your music prefs' is NOT what they would be doing. Probably ussage stats, sys specs, and posibly web usage.
