Shift Key Issue

Sorry if this has been discussed b4, i tried to do a search but it won't visualize the page.
The problem is that, anytime i join a game, my rine/alien starts off walking (wich is strange: it's supposed to run by default)
If i hit the shift key once, it toggles run.
but if i even TRY to strafe, he gets back to walking!
This is driving me nutz, can anyone tell me how to fix this plz?
