Update On My Map Ns_highjump_b1

<div class="IPBDescription">It's coming along fairly well!</div> Hey yall! I finished setting up Batch Compiler and all that! My "map" takes FOREVER to compile... it's only one stinking room (though.. it's a rather important one <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> )

I'm still having problems with the cargotruck2.wad thing... I'm hoping adding the command to BC to remove the wad file will help... just hope it isn't a majorly used wad *sweatdrop*

I'm going to compile it again tonight after I add the newest and most major updates (mainly the connection to the rest of the map) and see how it looks!

Ciao!

While updates are nice, said updates should be posted in the original topic about your map, not in their own seperate topic.

Websites are for updates. Showing off and releasing is for the forums. Oh and of course those lovely technical questions. Second post I've read in 5 minutes which is worthless and crap. Nice on Jean, keep filling the forum like this and it might turn into CS.

Of course, relentless flaming and a holier-than-thou attitude are going to make the situation <i>so</i> much better...

Jean (in an attempt to stay on-topic): Status updates are nice, but unless you have new screens, your old thread should suffice.

    On the topic of screens, let's see some! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    no need to flame
    it aint your game
    just say things nice
    that's my advice

    Keep it real, though,
    Don't try to impress!
    They've got to learn,
or get left behind with the rest!

    We all make mistakes,
    That's for sure!
    Just don't be too harsh,
    Learn to ignore!

This shall end my flaming poem,
I'll say but two more lines.
Can't we all just get along?
Can't we live without these whines?

    <b>POET SPOTTED!!!</b>

Nice poem <b>Hanz</b>, it will probably calm some of the people down on this community... poems have the tendancy to do that

Tip for<b> Jean Luc </b>, since this thread is slipping to off-topic and all. Maybe when you get the screens, put them in your original thread and let this one die <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

It's much better to have all the info from one map in one thread so the information/screens of the map is easy to browse trough... the <i>ns_nancy</i> and <i>ns_bast</i> remake threads are perfect examples of that. Just imagin if those remake teams would have putten every little update or new screenshot in a thread of its own CHAOS... CHAOS I SAY <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    hehe, nice poem dude!

*thinks* hmm... this thing's been compiling for almost 45 min now... *kicks himself for not boosting the virtual memory before hand*

I jsut got a new computer... 512 DDR SD Ram, 2.6 gig CPU, 80 Gig 7200 RPM HD... but I forgot to boost the virtual memory... so the ram keeps getting sucked dry and it's taking a LONG time to compile... *kicks self again*

Hmm... perhaps I'll do that. I actually FOUND the other post (thank god) and I found out why search never worked for me really... I always forgot to check how far back it was set (sweatdrop) stupid me <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Hmm... I really think I should keep this here... the map I'm making now is 100% different idea to the one i had before *sweatdrop*

    I've made a grand total of 3 rooms now... I'm worried about the sizes tho <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

The newest room is the BattleBox (needs a new name too)

It has 4 res nodes, one near each corner, protected by a double-wall barier... erm... yeah... I'll post a SS if I ever get these things to compile without the cargotruck.wad problem...

Anywho, the whole point of this room is to make it a MAJOR object of contension. It's HUGE, but it IS fair to aliens (lots of vents and things to hide in/around and such)

I also made a turbine room (not sure what to do with it... yet)

And then there's the one I've been working on!

And yet I've NO idea how to connect these yet *insert maniacle laughter here*

Oh well, least I can make the things!

Just a quick question, what is the mapinfo things? ?_? Never knew I needed some things in the map JUST for the map...

What entites/things are needed JUST for the map itself? things like the info_map doodad?

    ****UPDATE

Well, the quad res room is nearly finished, I just need to put in the vents themselves (the vent holes are there) and that's about it.

I FINALLY got a new laptop, so I don't have to put up with a laggy interface when working on my maps at school (lunch, studyhall, 2nd studyhall <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

I'm sitll hoping someone will tell me how to make the fake cargotruck1.wad file I need in order to get my maps to work...

    <a href='http://hem.bredband.net/congal/temp/cargotruck1.wad' target='_blank'>cargotruck1.wad</a>

(edit, You can use wally to make wads if you need to fiddle with it any more).

Wads must contain one texture so I made the smallest allowable texture and a gibberish name. Try -wadincluding that and see if it wants specific textures.

If it asks for certain textures when the map starts or something then at least you can search and replace them to remove them from your map.

You sure you didn't include any prefabs that might be using it?

Does ANY map require this file(if you make a lit box with a player spawn in and compile will it still ask for the file when you try to run the map, if it does it is a compiler setting problem of some sort and not the map, if it doesn't it's probably the map).

    **** UPDATE

I've started to actually put the map together. So far I've made:

    QUAD RES ROOM 90%
    ICE CAVERN 99%
    MARINE START 75%
    TURBINE ROOM 90%
    HUMIDTY CONTROL HIVE 25%

    OVERALL- 25%

<!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> Yeah, mainly texture problems... wish I could actually lock the textures so they didn't move when i moved the item

Biggest problem I have now is moving it OFF my laptop (it's a new one.. YAY!)

I have no Floppy drive (it has a CD/DVD combo instead) and I'm looking around for good USB Flash drives <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

THANK YOU SYLENT GREEN! Thank god! hehe, nah, no prefabs (cept for the emergancy lights in the quad res room... but they are from HL itself) and no idea where it came from *rolls eyes* my computres being haters again I guess <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

have you tried nullifying the entire map (texturing in NULL), select all and copy this into a new map file. then deinstall hammer completely and reinstall it with only wads you use selected.

after all this just do a quick retexturing by texturing everything in ONE standart ns.wad or ns2.wad texture and compile to see if this had any effect.
DONT TOUCH ANY OF THE TEXTURE PROPERTIES (this will save you a lot of work when retexturing)

    If it works retexture it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
