Need Help On A V Model

<div class="IPBDescription">Not anims, just bloody joints.</div>

Ok so I have a set of pred hands. They use Gordon's hands, so understandably I want to change them.

I try using LithUnwrap......... but it comes out all wonky, and I realise I'd have to remodel the hands entirely.

So I try using some arms from Firearms as a stand in. This works, I even make a bad skin. Excited, I remove the Gordon hands and put the Firearms ones in.

DISASTER! The hands float way below the Predator wristguards. Still no reply in my V weapon thread, so I download Milkshape and play with the joints. Joy, I can move the hands to the right spot! I think I'm on the right track.

BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The hand and finger bones of the firearms model have vanished!

Right now I'm back in milkshape trying to get the hand bones onto those wrists.

Why the big song and dance? The Pred model with the wrist guards has a verrrry complicated way of making the buttons flash. I don't intend to reanimate that. What I *do* want is to have decent hands on the end.

Anyone with solutions or offering to fix the problem so I can get on with ANIMATING them, then lemme know.

PS have a look in the Heavy Pred thread - if you can stick a NS heavy skeleton on it then I'll tweak the anims to make it look right.

you could try importing an ns skeleton, and then reattaching all the vertexs to the bones. you would also have to completely reanimate. that thing about the parts getting deleted though, that happend to me on the gauss rifle. it was something about somehow the vertexs became unassigned, and they werent picked up as unassigned when i exported, so they just got deleted. make sure they are assigned to a bone.

O_o i dont see the necesity of the millions of joints.... reskeliton it and then reanimate it. new hands as well.

I don't see the necessity myself, but thats how the guy made it and thats how it works.

I *think* I know where I screwed up - I assigned all the hand/finger verts to the elbows. I redid everything, left the verts as is....... and now I can't export because a vert isn't assigned to a bone.

However, I don't know how to find the fraggling vert which is causing me trouble.

Yes, in an ideal world I would redo it from scratch, however that would mean a *lot* of work in milkshape reassigning things and playing with vertices, which to be quite honest is *not* my forte. Animation yes, bone/vertex assigning no.

Hence why I'm just trying to fuse the models.

Of course the QUICKER way would be to shave off the polys forming gordons handpak, remove the knuckles, remesh the hands and just put a simple reskin over the top. However thats modelling, something I have little to no experience of and quite honestly not enough time to learn.

Anyhow, going to play Hunt the Vertex now, see if I can get this to export.

    HAHAHAHA

    Got it working.

Fear my badly skinned and unanimated v weapon!

Now thats out of the way, I can combine it with the bladey arm (easy) and begin the task of merely splicing the existing anims. Hopefully using this new hand I can encourage someone to give me a firearms arm compatible skin, or something.

you know that there IS a button to select unassigned vert's right?

No I don't know about that. Because I don't like using Milkshape, I don't want to learn modelling, I don't want to learn how to assign vertices, I don't want to have to spend a year learning to draw really well, in fact all I DO want is some models and an open document to edit them in.

It grinds on me that I've to spend such time nobbing about in a program I don't particularly want or need to understand in order to just get a model I can animate.

In addition, the vertex never showed up when I clicked the unselected thing. I had to redo the whole thing from scratch. Now to add the blades and animate the damned thing.
