Only thing that seems to be wrong is this line, which when I played TFC caused me to drop because I couldn't get WON authorisation. In TFC I would restart which has not worked here how do I fix this on the server.

Could not get IPX socket name, IPX disabled
    Reason: WSAENOTSOCK

I put it up again, it seems to work so long as it is not a dedicated server...
WHOA whoa whoa didn't see this, I didnt have NS dedicated server just 1.04 pathc, question, do I need 1.01 1.02 and .03 before 1.04 pathc?

I put the server up again so its up, tell me if you manage to get on.
Does anyone know of a tutorial for puttin gup a HL dedicated server?

The IPX error is no doubt caused by not having the IPX protocol installed on your computer, as it isn't installed by default.
    Start->Settings->[Control Panel]->Network
Choose to add a protocol, and choose IPX. You'll need your windows disc to install it.

No.. the patches are only NS.dll files, If you did install previous ones before 1.04, it would just overwrite the only change the previous patches made anyways <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Make a shortcut to HLDS and put this in the target line in properties "C:\Sierra\half-life\hlds.exe -game ns -port 27016 –noipx +log on +maxplayers <max players> +map <map>" Now you can enter your Server but this will cause abit more lag

I'm using XP (home edition as it was default) and I cannot find the things you are talking about. IN network connections there are only the current connections no add or configure buttons. I found something called remote access connections under advanced, is this what I'm looking for?

I don't think you can set up IPX without a local network. Don't worry, IPX will not do anything for over-the-net connections.

I have a home network but no bootdisc, anyone know where I can get an IPX protocal that will allow me to put up a dedicated server on my PC?

Till then I'll put up a non dedicated server.

    No no no no no.

DON'T go installing networking protocols, especially those you don't *want* to use on the Internet. IPX/SPX is a legacy thing now, and you certainly won't get players using it.

Yes, but then how come in the error thing it says that and then players cant join?

IPX was for local games. Warcraft II and Starcraft used IPX to connect, and probably others as well (the AoE series did as well iirc)

Half Life on LAN also uses IPX if I'm not mistaken...
