I think the border line between twekaing and cheating is clear. Cheating is tweaking so that it doesn't give you just an advantage, but an <i>unfair</i> advantage.

It's just opinion of what is fair is different, but I think that can be broken down by asking what was intended to be possible.

This isn't fallible though, because rocket jumping when first conceived by players wasn't intended until people were doing it in servers.

Okay, this has kinda become a script vs. non script argument.

I think the original intent was to address a concern about cheaters using custom files to their unfair advantage. Let me break it down.

NOT Cheating: Buy scripts that allow you to buy a favorite weapon/kevlar/grenade combo.

CHEATING: A script that allows you to aim with your pistol, switch to AWP, fire a shot, switch to pistol, and move on. This is done regulary, since you pistol crosshair is extremely accurate, and ti takes a long time to use the scope. This is cheating...

NOT Cheating: Using custom skins on guns/models and custgom sounds to enhance gameplay (look more realistic, sound mor erealistic).

CHEATING: Having CT models red and T models Green to make easier distinction.

There are anti-cheat methods of checking certain cheats and other things. On the servers I do play on on CS (when I have a connection worhty to) check and force standard models. This isnt fair to "customizers"? Don't play on the server. But for the rest of us, it's easier knowing most people are ont he same playing level as us.

IMHO, any changes should only enhance the way you enjoy the game, but not enhance your abilities or go contrary to the intent of the game. I personally don't customize anything, because I respect the creator of the game by allowing it to look and feel exactly the way he/she wanted it. I think any "customizations" you make can be okay, but the sign of a true gamer is that he can play just as well with standard textures/sounds/menus (go ahead and flame me).

Flayra has spent so much time getting the sounds/textures/atmosphere of this MOD as close to his vision, I think he'd be insulted to find texture/sound packs that "enhance" the gameplay. I think the creator of the game has enough of an idea of what he is shooting for.

I think you guys are blowing this up way out of proportion.  Trust the NS Dev team, I think they know what they're doing by now...

I use quick-buy scripts in CS. I use sensitivity modifying scripts in CS and DoD. I use a custom weapon switching script that makes picking the weapon i want that bit less irritating. Does that make me a cheater? No. it doesn't. It just makes me someone that knows how to use the console for my own purposes. i share all my scripts with anyone that wants them, and i don't hide what i do. When NS is out, i'll do the same thing. if you like i'll post everything i write up here for everyone elses consideration.

I change my player models, if i think it suits the game. I change my weapon models, sounds, sprites and anything else cosmetic <b>if i think it suits the game</b>. All these changes i make for the sole reason of <u>making the game look better.</u> its purely cosmetic, and if you don't want them changed, i have no problem with that. Eg; The Opera's encrypted player models - the creators wanted a certain feel to the game, and did what was necessary to keep it. I find that quite admirable, actually. (RIP Opera for HL)
