I'm still peeved at Lucas over his refusal to release the original trilogy on DVD.  I was an early adopter of the DVD format (very early), and when I read an official statement from Lucasfilms and Fox stating that it would be at least 2005 before the original films were released to that format, it made my blood boil.  What's even worse is that I just know when they are eventually released, it's not going to be the original theatrical release version.  Odds are, it'll be the 'improved', 'special edition' crap.  Grrr...

I guess what I'm saying is, I have very little sympathy for Lucas and his problems with piracy.

    Woo another big debate!

As far as I see it, although piracy is a big problem, (I will admit to doing it although I don't do it now I buy my games!) The music industry are realing from it over here what with mp3s and stuff. However there doesn't seem a way of stopping it apart from finding the perpitrators or developing ways around it

(our music industry want intel to put componants onto their equipment to stop people using pirate material) Gamecube have a good idea in that they avoind piracy by having special real small disks instead of normal ones good idea IMO

    Just a few thoughts

The way to stop piracy is NOT anti-privacy stuff (did I say privacy? sorry, meant piracy <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->) like that hardware stuff that is being developed.

As long as you have music file formats you will have piracy, the only way to reduce it is to reduce demand by getting in into people's skulls that it is a bad thing, like say, mudering people is bad, or mugging or theiving is bad.

Simply reducing the demand for file sharing would lead to it's demise, it's a self-killing thing, as less people are into it, the less stuff on offer and the harder it is to do, so more people will stop.

There will always be the "hardcore" warez community as there has been since the internet started, but that's not really a problem, more the problem as I see it is simply people's attitudes towards warez, that it's not a bad thing, or it's their "right", or that they buy it anyway so it's alright.

uhhhhh... it IS alright if I buy it anyway. Have I stolen from a company if I download a full version game off of the internet and then decide to support the company and purchase it since they made a quality product? I think not.

If I dislike a downloaded game, it gets promptly deleted from my computer. If I like it enough, I'll buy it. Simple as that.

I, being a complete Starwoid, knew about all this, and I formulated a 7 page post should the time come when this debate happens. Then, of course, I figured "bah", and posted this:

The guy deserves what he gets, Lucasfilms can stand the hit, and "previewing" it before ya buy the thing only works (morally) if you have never seen or bought anything from that company before so you have no way to judge the quality.

    Oh, and I didn't write a 7 page post.

Or, he may just release both editions, under the title "Classic" and "Special Edition."  Make the true fans pay for three DVDs (maybe even four, if they have enough bonus material) TWICE!

    -Ryan!
