I've been looking forward to City of Heroes. I've played AO in the past and gave it up due to weak soloing at higher levels and my percieved redundancy. I've never been one for PvP either, especially when it means losing my stuff. The difference with CoH is that everyone is a superhero and they all fight the bad guys. Check out this article from IGN for more info.
Horizons A typical MMORPG with a few interesting things. (Cities built completely by players, Enemies ambush in the woods and you can be a dragon and fly around burninating!)
Was turned down by it cos im poor though. Monthly fees = L00se
Currently in closed beta if I'm not mistaken.
*edit* What really got me looking at it was the maturity. I mean look at this picture, none of that "Noble elves and Loyal Dwarfs" mushy mushy Tolkien crap*Edit*

Neorcron is good and the new add on is due this week. EVE online is alright more managment tho.
beta tested horizons and it was about as fun as having your teeth taken out without anaesthetic.
I think you're genuinely asking too much if you're after a 'decent' MMORPG ^~
Neocron was fun, RO was interesting but still just an MMORPG, AC2 has beautiful landscapes that are fun to explore but all in all they're still fall flat on their face like everything else MMO related. Only thing I've not tried that could be genuinely interesting is planetside, but that's because you actually need to play it, unlike 'scriptathon' MMORPGs =o

Agreed. That was and still is the largest problem, by far, with that game.
The only MMORPG ive been able to stomach for long periods of time is Ragnarok Online, so I would recommend that.
Horizons rocks. Been playing it for two weeks and I'm playing a dragon. They added the Rite of Passage this week (quest that allows dragons to turn adult and actually fly). Finally a game where not everything is about killing mobs and getting "phat lewt". You can pick up a 'hobby' class (crafting) such as masonry, tailoring, jewelry, spellcrafting, fletcher, blacksmith, weaponsmith, alchemist and a load of other things. You gain xp by actually gathering resources for your required items and level by this. You can always switch crafting classes if you're a non-dragon (only 1 class in both kinds as a dragon), and you can switch main classes at any time as well. 13 bucks a month, and if you're into D2 styled unique things and only killing, you won't like it much. You can buy plots of land and build the buildings on it yourself. You create your own weapons/armor/spells, everything. Dragon Lairshaping is planned to be added soon, and there's live events and updates weekly. Also, characters are fully customizable at creation.
Only down side is the fact that EU players have to play on EU servers, same for the US.

Final Fantasy XI.
It won't let you down, no matter what the unbelievers say. Just get past level 15-(will take about a week, a month MAX), and the game gets DAMNED good.
Right now SWG is my MMORPG of choice and will be until the Apocalypse. Guild Wars sounds INCREDIBLY promising, however, AND doesn't have a monthly fee. So woo.
what wither forgot to mention about crafting is that it's utterly devoid of skill or fun. To become a mighty crafter you just need to walk to the resource needed (rocks, trees, whatever) click, watch, repeat until you have a full inventory. Then you walk to the manufacturing place required (saw, smelter, etc) and click the recipe... and watch... and repeat. By now you've probably got the building blocks for what you want.. and guess how you do that... go place, click, watch!!!

oh... my... god... that guild wars not only has beautiful graphics but in something almost unpresidented in fully 3D mmorpgs, the female avatars don't suck o.O

Semi-Off-Topic: You know what would make a great MMORPG? Grim Fandango.
Remember... people actually pay for this =P

Egads, it might be worth checking out.
