Looking For A New E-mail Program

<div class="IPBDescription">Outlook 2003 or Thunderbird or other?</div>I'm getting a lot of junk mail, and third party utilities to cut down on spam don't seem to cut it, and so I'm considering switching from Outlook Express to an e-mail client with anti-spam features (that work) built in.

I have a coworker who has Outlook 2003 and he absolutely loves it, and says only 1 spam out of every 100 or so get through. However the downside here is that it costs money. If its really worth it though I'll shell out the cash.

I was also looking at Thunderbird, Mozilla's e-mail thingy. Is it any good? Are there any screenshots of it anywhere? I don't want something that looks stupid.

Or do any of you use any OTHER e-mail clients? (is Eudora even still around? heh)

The only requirements I have are:
1) Must effectively filter the majority of spam
2) has to import Outlook Express mailboxes
3) has to look good, not something that looks like somebody w/ no concept of UI design made it. This includes usability.

Virii by email isn't much of a concern since I'm not an idiot.

CompUSA's got a deal that was in the paper today for a free-after-rebate spam stopping program for Outlook. I forget the name, but the box has a huge picture of a stopsign on the front. While you're there you can pick up Serious Sam: the Second Encounter, the Hobbit, and Conquest for free after rebate, and some pretty good noise-cancelling Koss headphones for 20 after rebate.

As for really moving away from Outlook, I keep hearing about Eudora being a decent competitor, but don't have much experience with it myself. [edit]Yes, by all means they are still around, but I just found that the "spamwatch" feature is in the paid version.

I also just remembered a friend saying that Opera's e-mail system is rather intelligent about auto-detecting which mailings are from regularly mailed newsletters, then organizing everything. If you already use Opera, you're set.[/edit]

Thunderbird all the way. It's almost a carbon-copy of Outlook, but has an intelligent, heuristic junk-blocking system. Works fantastic for me; spam just isn't an issue.

Very much like Outlook Express, from what I have seen of it.

Personally, I use Outlook 2003 (I tested Thunderbird for about 2 days), but I wanted something that would also have a decent calendar, contacts, notes, etc etc. Im getting a lot of email viruses (due to the fact that my email addresses are vast), but all spam seems to be getting filtered.

As for importing Outlook Express info, I had a few problems, due to the fact I was using some stupidly old version of Outlook Express, but I got it to work in the end. Cant remember how at the moment, but it wasnt too much bother.
