What Do You Think?

<div class="IPBDescription">Car</div> I was talking to a friend yesterday briefly and he says he knows someone who is selling a car for £250. I was in a rush but here is what he told me.

Vauxhall Astra
L reg
60,000 miles
No accident history
It's white

I'm a nub when it comes to cars but does this sound OK? I'll speak to him more later but what do you think about the deal judging on the information I know so far?

I'll be going for my driving test in about a week and I would like a car if I pass <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.natural-selection.org/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It probably has cat pee all over it <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

    Maybe. It also has no petrol/diesel/uranium for flux capacitor/whatever in it so it's not going anywhere yet.

    well it has low milage on it, but that is pretty cheap for a car with that low amount of milage and no accident history and what-not. there MUST be something wrong with it. i'd check it out.

    hmmm sounds like a throw away car, how much tax is on it?

    thats what the popular thing is at the moment, buy a cheep car, get it legal, then slap the minimum amout of tax on it and sell it for a profit.

    it works becuase even if the tax is only for 3 months, its more than likely cheeper to buy another car in 3 months time.

    does it have a recent MoT? if its very recent, its a good sign nothing is wrong with it.

    get someone who knows what they are doing to have a look at it. not someone who says they know what they are doing. those people dont know anything.

    I've known this guy (not the seller, my friend) for years so I trust him. I'll have it checked out anyway when I get a chance. The information in the first post is all I know about it atm so I couldn't tell you if it has had a recent MoT.

    There is a local garage that it is pretty trustworthy from what I've heard. Should I ask them to check it out?

    Come on people. If you don't have anything helpful to say please don't post.

    Doc? Doc, what the hell is a gigawatt?!

    ...I'd get the car...if it runs. If it's covered in cat pee you can clean it <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> . Besides, a crappy car is better than no car (except maybe with insurance).

    sorry for bringing this to the top, but whatever

    yeah get some one to check it out, its cheep so dont expect it to be perfect, but you dont want your car becoming two cars at 70mph.

    or do you?... <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    That would be fun. Lets see who can travel further before their half of the car comes to a stop <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    It doesn't matter anymore. I've checked insurance quotes and the cheapest one is ?1500 more than the freaking car! Can't really afford it right now. I'll probably save my money and get a car with a smaller engine so the insurance aint so high (this is a 1.4).

    you can't go TOO wrong for that little money, can you?

    I had a $500 car once that lasted I think a year before it sputtered out... and considering most $30,000 new cars don't last 10 years, $500 for one year is a gr8 bargain =p

    If the car is not German, don't even think about buying it. <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Like I said in my first post I'm a bit of a nub with cars. But BMWs rock <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> Z3 is my favourite one. I wish they could have those little mobile phone remotes like Bond did in Tomorrow Never Dies <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo--> Imagine the fun you could have with that.

    Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the car used in Tomorrow Never Dies is a Z8. (It looks pretty much the same as a Z3, I don't even know what the difference was).
    Also, I think they stopped producing the Z3 <!--emo&:(--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/sad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='sad.gif' /><!--endemo-->. Now they make the new 2004 Z4 abomination. Man, the new BMW designs suck, especially the new M7.
