So one of my friend goes to college over at Potsdam University in NY. (named Potsdam b/c the college is made of bricks from Potsdam Germany)

As it so happens their network funding for internet etc went bankrupt.

oops

So they have to barrow bandwidth from the next college over (which happens to be across the street) Never heard of 2 Universitys so close together.. and who is already in need of a huge overhaul of their existing network (these arnt major universites)

Anyways now that they are sharing bandwith on an already over taxed system... well lets say...

My friend cant even play gunbound online.

And chat programs like AIM and MSN or ICQ are even laggy.
Several different speed tests all show that the average bandwith is well below a 28k modem.

    I would drop out of that college. I mean, hell, 28k? Is there life outside intraweb? What's he going to do with that kind of connection...study? Your friend is about to become an alcoholist(I've seen it happen, bad connection can be hard), the question is: What are YOU going to do to save him?

    Get a cable modem. That's what I do at my college. They block every port execpt 80. Every port. They friggin block the port for EMAIL. Yeah, I hate them.

    My school's network is like that.

    A: They block everything. Yes, EVERYTHING, even Google Images is blocked.

    B: It's slower than a snail stuck in superglue.

    I've been in the server room and the pipe, in which the school is connected to the world by, is dead thick as well
