alright. well im planning to buy an ati card that has a vga silencer attached to it for $250, which may or may not be worth it. but looking around, ive heard nothing but good from the cooler itself. here is the link http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc....-161-109&depa=0

now that you bring up that third party radeon cards arent reliable, i just wanted to know if this is considered to be one, as im not exactly sure what defines a third party radeon (no ATi sticker?). well if anyone has any feedback on this card, please post. thanks.

this is a 3rd party card. Anything that says BUILT BY ATI is made by ati. Anything that says POWERED BY ATI is 3rd party.

I'd go with ATi, I've never had a problem with one of their products yet (Rage 128, Radeon 32MB, AIW Radeon 9200), where I have with nVidia (TNT2, GeForce 2). But it's probably Hewlett Packard being a retarted company.

They set the graphics driver to run in 8x AGP mode when I got it. It has a 4x AGP slot...

    Duh...

OH YEAH! I remember... The nVidia cards have a slight performance advantage in OpenGL based games, but ATi gets a larger performance increase in DirectX 9.

\/ \/ Wow. I'll be lookin'. Third party, apparentley

A way to get something MUCH better:

Look for a rare ATi 9600 256mb version. They are VERY rare, but if you find one, its usually 200-230.

Right, and how is a 9600 256mb supposed to be better than 9800 128/256?

Has anyone seen THG's VGA Chart 3?

NVIDIA CARDS ARE NOT SLOWER REALLY ANYMORE, THEY WERE BUT THEY HAVE BEEN OPTIMIZED BETTER AND DO BETTER THAN RADEON IN SOME TESTS

Dirtygabbsnevada, get your hands off that capslock, you're hurting it!

I'd say get the 9800pro. I have one and it hasn't given me any problems yet.
