I'm Going To Try Steam Once...

I recently decided to try steam once for Ns only, after reviewing these forums I figured I'd take the risk if it doesn't work. So after following explicit instructions on how to run NS on steam, I'm stuck on a spot. Now correct me if I'm wrong it says to dl steam installer, run the training course of HL through the installer so that the installer will be able to load games. Then dl NS beta 1, dl beta 2 patch, dl beta 3 patch. (And trust me they are in the correct folder, I just don't know it off the top of my head) Then when you start the installer again NS beta should be under the Third party games heading right? You click on it and the game should work. Well thats where I'm stuck. After I click on it steam says "you have chosen to add Half-Life to your my games list." So I click next and it asks for my halflife cdrom key so I type it in and it gives me all these games I have in my patinum pack except for NS which is the only game I want to run on Steam. (I'm sorry but CS and DOD is too precious for me to have steam managing it) To be added to my "My Games" list. I uncheck everything but leave Halflife checked because it seems to be checked permanently. I click on next, check leave old files intact, click next, steam starts to register my cdkey then this error messeage goes on
Either your products cdkey matches one already used in our database, or is invalid. Please double check to see blah blah blah blah.
I checked my steps rechecked it again and triple checked it for the third time. Same thing happens. I'm not fustrated, because if I was I wouldn't be able to be this patient writing this topic out but I am because this game isn't my favorite but something I'd like to see since theres a new version out and who knows, I might help some poor guy whose having the same troubles I'm having. I've played NS before with WON a few times so kinda curious to see what they changed in the new version. Thanks and have a <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> day.

Comments
1- Is this your first ever Steam account? (you didn't use the key in any other, even on beta stages)
2- Does anyone else know your cd-key? Have you bought your game through e-bay or similar? Someone may have registered it first.
3- Some update may have screwed up something.
4- You've been hacked (which I doubt would happen) or you got a cd-key distributed by Vivendi Universal. Valve is having problems with these. Scan your cd box with the cd-key and send it to someone from Valve. (Taylor Sherman, Waldo, etc.)
