<div class="IPBDescription">Yes, I need -YOU-!</div> So I'm getting a roughly $250 tax refund check on Monday and have another couple hundred sitting around in savings and figure maybe it's about time to upgrade my mobo and CPU. I have a Radeon 9800, so the video card is fine for the time being. My current specs are:

Athlon XP 1900+
ASUS K7V something, I think. I'm horrible, I can't remember. :X
1GB Crucial PC2100 DDR memory

I used to be a lot more up to date on the top hardware, but that's suffered lately, so I could use a hand. I'd prefer Athlon, as I've been an AMD CPU user ever since my first PC I built in high school <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> If I can avoid getting new memory, that'd be great, though I'm open to it if it would greatly improve performance.

So... help meh! <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    250 bucks australian will get you about 3.2 ghz amd athlon xp

    $AUD1 = roughly $US0.70

    edit: 3.2ghz not 2.4 <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Personaly, I like to use MWave, they have nice mobo/cpu combos (and you can toss in memory and/or testing with it also.

    <a href='http://www.mwave.com/mwave/ProdCPUBUNDLES-64.hmx?updepts=BUNAMDCPU&DNAME=Motherboard+Bundles+By+AMD+CPU' target='_blank'>http://www.mwave.com/mwave/ProdCPUBUNDLES-...dles+By+AMD+CPU</a>

    if the link dosn't work:
    www.mwave.com
    Catalog (top left corner)
    mouse over motherboards
    popup menu--> Mobo/cpu combos
    Search by CPU--> AMD (I like AMD, you should probably hunt around both of them)

    NOTE: I am not that informed about these things atm either (I generaly talk to my bro/dad before purchases), sooooooooooo

    BUMP
    cmon, some one who actualy is in touch with this stuff (its KFS, yalls need to pay him back <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->)

    Hmm, I may check that out.

    Right now I'm looking at an Athlon XP 3200+ with an ABit KV7 board (KT600 chipset). Should let me take advantage of that 400mhz FSB and PC3200 memory, which I plan on upgrading to as well.
