im gunna cry lol
right yesturday i got home form college early sat on me comp and visted different sites like the ns forums etc checking news and updates from these sites. Then suddenly the browser becomes un-clickable and i could see the (Not Responding) up the top. so i thought ah ok restart me comp by pressing the button on the front of the computer unit! and i did everything loaded find the it took ages loading up Windows XP pro (you know that screen where it says Windows Xp pro with the little bar and the 3 blue or green bars flying past) normally it takes those 3 little bars to go past 3 times this time it took more than that. so im now thinking hmmm ok err whats wrong now. I got into windows and found it was a bit laggy like opening pages etc. Ive done a Trojan scan and a Virus scan nothing has been found.

but.... a few days ago my ISP (the lovely people they are) intercepted an email that i sent, but i didnt to some person with my details and they said i have this worm called Worm.SomeFool.Gen-1 Now ive looked on the net to find a patch and i cant find anything.

Also recently explorer.exe has been running loads of mem.. is this also normal heres a screeny

Can any one help. its starting to p*ss me off

The explorer process on my computer takes up about the same amount of memory so I wouldn't worry too much about that (unless my computer is fecked up and I don't know about it). Have you done the usual maintainence stuff? Example, defrag, spyware scan, etc.

lately my avant browser and internet explorer have got lots of freeze-ups on loading eny site(including NS forums), when ya gona restart comp, if theres software that keeps running even comp is restarting it could be possible trojan/virus(all i found with spyware scan was data miners)

    -backup all data u need
    -format ur HD
    -make 3 partitions

    c: OS/DRIVERS
    d:game/programs
    e:downloads

I found this way just fine to my needs, having 1 partition for ur OS makes sure you can reinstall it pretty much faster.
having 1 partition for programs/games and 1 for downloads makes ur HD less defragmentent (at least the programs/games & os part).

update ur windows to the MAX
    put up a good firewall/virusscanner

..at least that's what I did when I had the exact same problem

What about scandisk (check for bad sectors on HD)? One misplaced bit is all it takes to make an OS go wonky.

I didn't understand that clearly, but beware of fake "ISP" mail.

For example, the other day, I got a form sent by some staff@hotmail.com something that read "please help us fight mydoom. Send us your account and pass to help us fight the threat" or something along those lines.

The form looked quite nice, even though the sender's adress looked so wrong, the subject so stupid, yet could have caught a few of them.

The above didn't necessarily happen to you, but it still needs to be mentioned.

Though I don't know why it takes so much memory. Try to recall any recent change you did to your config (reg editing, new software/hardware, etc)

multiple instances of svchost.exe is usually a bad thing. sometimes viruses use it to load themselves.
