Tramline / Crew Quarters WIP
Well, work continues on Nova, with around 75% being complete now. Below are work-in-progress pics of the cavernous "Tramline" room. A few details need to be added such as fans and pipes, but it's complete for the most part. The crew quarters will be the small room the walkway leads to. I'm just starting that now, and it'll be full of neat details, best of which being a view of the hull watching out into space.

Anyway, critique and comments most welcome, and keep an eye on this thread for updated pics of the Tramline and new pics of the Crew Quarters.

Cheers!

    Absolutely lovely work.
The shape is great, the height is great, the textures are great.

    This looks like official merchandise.

    Oh, and the lighting

Well, most of the other areas of the map that I've done are shown in other threads, but I promise you, progress on this area will be speedy

I really like it, but a few things look odd to me in the first picture. It may just be me, but that way the walkway supports attach to the pipe texture looks bad, maybe add brushes that look like braces on the ceiling and attach the supports to those? I think that would make the whole scene a bit more believable. Also the manner in which the door texture appears to connect to the floor of the tram tunnel looks odd. Perhaps a thin rectangular brush between the two with some sort of transtition texture? Also, for some reason it looks really boxy to me in the first screenshot, but that's porbably just due to the unusual point of view in the shot, It would probably look fine to me in-game.

Other than that it's very nice.

Unique. I like the vertical movement, keep it up!

    Thanks for the comments.

Tranquil: I have mixed feelings about the walkway supports, they look decent in-game, but I may tweak them later. As for the door, it does have a transitional texture, you just can't see it because of the angle. Same for the tram rail; it doesn't actually touch the door but ends 8 units in front of it.

I'll update with some fresh "White Hot Map Shots ™" later on tonight.

Nie so far, i like the first SS. Only thing thats bugging me are some of the textures in that later SS...seem kinda...dull.

I dont think they are dull, more atmospheric, evoking a real creepy feeling.

The architecture adopts a moody framework, which will emphasise the Natural-Selection concept superbly.

Alright, 'Crew Quarters' is pretty much done now, I'm pleased with how it's turned out

That vent in the roof will be breakable, by the way, so this room isn't a dead end.

    The little details are great.
The medic box, and the folded matress.
    Really nice work.
The outside ship surface has been done really well.

    Keep it up.

Not much to show here, some nice pipe brushwork, but this is just to get some closure on the area as it is pretty much finished.

    Next up... you'll see

    Just some observations.

The pic with the med box in it needs a fresh coat of NS IMO. The med box is too WW2, DODish and needs something more futuristic in design. Just changing the color of the cross and its background might make it fit in better. The over turned bed just shouts CS to me. I just couldn't picture a skulk jumping out from behind a box spring mattress, and believing it. Also that green wall texture is kind of HLDM.
everything else looks really solid especially the windows with the exterior detail.

    keep at it.

I'm just trying to freshen up my map with some custom styles. I'm referencing a sort of Alien trilogy style; a mix of the future and the traditional with a little bit of grit. That's why I believe that matresses and med boxes wouldn't change that much from the present day, at least in a 'skin deep' sense.
