Major Lag Spikes Since Last Update.

My ping since this last update for Steam has been un consistent. It's ok, only spikes to 200 sometimes) when im not near a battle or anything. But as soon as I get near one it spikes to 700+. This is unbareable, im on cable and it was fine before. I can play other online games and not have any spikes.

Edit - I would be checking the Steam forums but over the last 3 hours ive tried to go anywhere on them and have gotten:

    Fixed it, its just the auto-update deal. Except now I get the Host Error UserMsg: Not Present on Client 57 error.

    Check what your rate is set at. One of my roommates managed to set his rate to 1500 after the last update, making NS nearly unplayable.

    That happened to me and Shockwave too. We know it wasn't us that messed with our rates, so steam must have edited it for us as part of the update, how helpful. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    And it was only sheer luck we noticed it, just trawling through the settings.

    I think Steam has decided a few things based on your network performance at the time, but of course that network performance at the time it checked was awful, because we were updating Steam. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Typical. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Fortunately for my roommate, it took me a whole two seconds to recognize it, as I have had a malicious admin in the past execute "rate 1" for me right before banning me, then subsequently spent the next hour figuring out what was wrong with CS. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    I bet that admin didn't think that he would be doing you a favour in the long run <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    The latest steam update messed up your connetion settings, every time you start steam it defaults back to 14.4k modem speed...so if you set it to the right speed (depending on your connection speed) So just remeber to check the speeds (in your settings menu) every time you start up. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
