<div class="IPBDescription">howthe****!</div> Ok, setup is

Iinet ADSL

Machine1 - windows xp
Machine2 - windows 98

Netgear DG834 Modem / router in 1

Situation is <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Machine 1 is connected to the router, and can access the internet, etc.

Machine 2 cant connect to the router tho.

Dont know why? I have set a static ip to 192.168.0.3, but cant ping 192.168.0.1 (router).

Does anyone know how to set up 98 on a router-setup so that it will connect to the internet?

(i hate 98.. and no , it looks like 98 is staying on that machine)

    Could you draw a diagram of the network for me? Does the router have a builtin switch or is there an external one?

    I'm afraid the only thing I can recommend right now is that you make sure the subnet mask is right (255.255.255.0 probably), and that your DNS settings are correct.

    Start->Settings->Controll Panel. Doubleclick Network, doubleclick TCP/IP. On the IP Address tab, make sure IP Address is set to 192.168.0.3 and Subnet mask is set yo 255.255.255.0 .

    DNS shouldn't be a problem with pinging the router, but you should set it up for ineternet stuff:

    On the DNS Configuration tab, enable DNS, and add your DNS server IP address(s).

    Alternatively, most 'home' routers are DHCP servers, in which case you can disable DNS, and Optain IP Address Automatically in the IP Address tab.

    Changing IP settings will require a restart in Win98.

    Incidentally, how did you setup the WinXP box?
