In BF1942 you can fly planes...Tribes 2, and yes C&C renegade.

Doesn't Crimson Skies fit the bill?

How about Freespace2?

Never played CS, but I know Freespace2 used to provide funky, free dogfight action..

besides, it's the greatest spaceflight game since "Elite" and can be had at bargain bucket prices..

Crimson Skies: One of the top ten games of all time, according to me.

Only like 60 people that are in the room where you choose to play though.

Ok, C&C renegade has choppers, no planes, and you have to press the movement keys to move around, press jumping one to go up and crouching one to go down.
Bf1942...... most of the gh3y csers play this game for a while, and they do some nasty llama stuff like stealing your planes or blowing them up when you finnally get your hands on them.......

or just general tking, I know a DOD fanatic that does this, he lives down the hall from me. He seems to feel that play without thought is best...

Crimson Skies?

X-|

That game is a disgrace to the concept of flying games. I'm a huge fan of flight sim games and I have bought a US$150 joystick to that effect. I installed CS thinking "Woohoo! a bit of escapism flying!" then I found out that the flight model was more along the lines of Rogue Squadron’s Tie Fighters than any kind of propeller-driven contraption. You could practically stop in midair, point your nose skywards, throttle up and off you go into the clouds.

I highly recommend IL2 Sturmovik, it's got very decent netcode and voicecomm so you don't have to land every time you want to talk. It is realistic to the extent that if you try to take off with all realism settings on, you will crash until you get a lot of practice under your hat.

Freespace 1 and 2 were great flight sims with immersive storylines and decent graphics. If you want a more in-depth space sim, have a look at Independence War 2 : Edge of Chaos. It's a Space sim/RPG, very cool. You trade raw materials to buy weapons to upgrade your ship. You can do pirating raids on corporate convoys, make friends with certain factions, recycle old junk you don’t want and manufacture your own weapons and ammo if you have the blueprints for them. Mighty fun game, heaps of things to tweak and twiggle in your ship, it kept me occupied for about 2 months. The graphics are stunning; your ship lights up with a dull red glow when you're near a star or your ship flashes green when a assault cannon blast misses you by a few metres. Very open-ended gameplay, you can do the missions if you want but it’s not necessary unless you want to progress in the storyline. It’s got a very good pie menu system that you can access with your joystick’s POV hat. Sadly the online component is lacking in the extreme.

I want a online flying / space game where you blow oponnents up, not where you trade with them.

I wonder why no one thought of Operation Flashpoint. Very good singleplayer and awesome multiplayer game. You can go shooting as a soldier or drive around with multiple landvehicles(tanks, APC, jeeps) or then fly in the sky with choppers and planes. This game is truly awesome. Or were you looking for "only flying" game?

You don't trade with people in MP IWar2:EOC, only in SP. MP has got your usual bunch of CTF,DM and TDM. That's right, in a space sim. I told you it was lacking. It has also got a very realistic physics engine. You can burn along in one direction, shut your engines off and turn sideways so you are hurtling along at 1200 m/s sideways. Quite cool.

I've heard of a flight simulator with international planes, but none with those big huge sub-machine guns on them...But, if you are looking for a game simliar to that, try Conflict: Desert Storm.

Thats rubbish, it not excactly for flying anyway since its mainly running around. I wanna use my joystick, its awesome.

Descent:Freespace.

It's a bit old, but it doesn't show it; the graphics are AWESOME, and so's the story. A warning, though: you have to be a really, really, really good pilot to get much of anywhere in that game... unless you're playing on "Very Easy".

Oh, and before you write it off as "another descent game", it's not, and there's no good reason for it to have that name. You won't be flying around in any tunnels.

"If I wanted realism, I'd go outside and eat a plant."

The only other flight sim I've played is Falcon 4... I didn't like it AT ALL>

I like the actual flying, instead of memorizing how to switch radar modes, sweep for radar lock, switch to AAMRAAMS and pickle...

Crimson Skies suits my style far better, guns kills only, and limitied rocket use.

I own the first Independence War game. I normally hate ultra-realism, but the physics, graphics, gameplay, and plot/voice-acting was incredible. I cheated a bit to get through it, I admit, but it's an incredibly fun game nonetheless. X-Wing Alliance is fun for the no-think, just run and gun space shooter, too.
