If a PT leaked it, I'd find out who it was then drive to their house for a little chat.
• BillBill Join Date: 2002-08-08 Member: 1108Members
No, I'd rather wait for a finished product and play the game normal. Others mods I've waited patiently for have been leaked in the past and I didn't download them.

The group of pts Flayra and Company chose are extreemly trustworthy... It would be more probable that someone goes out and hijacks a plane to demand the RC than a playtester leeking it.

Indeed.

I also forgot you need a pw to install it. You also cant start any servers unless you have the server files, whitch are also pwed (different). And, theres only 3 test servers - so if your not supposed to be there, you wont be for long ...

Glad to see that when it comes to NS absolutely everything is done in a proffesional manner

i would download it, but never keep the leak going, the only reason i'd download it would be to end my curiosity and look around :O

but leaking = bad
• Phoenix1Phoenix1 Join Date: 2002-08-14 Member: 1150Members
And how necro do you intend to just look around. Can't join a server and stay there for long, you need a password, and you need a password for the server files

No Jops. You cannot host a server. That includes hosting a LAN server.
• DerfudDerfud Join Date: 2002-09-29 Member: 1370Members
I know for a fact that the server IS NOT, i repeat, is not passworded, i have seen NS games before, and with the program i use The All seeing eye I can see if a server is passworded or not, who's playing on it, and hack if i want to join it i'll just double click and it'll join me when a slot opens!
I also know that this is the server for playtesting, since i have seen Monse, and others on it.
• MonsieurEvilMonsieurEvil Join Date: 2002-01-22 Member: 4Members, Retired Developer, NS1 Playtester, Contributor
It depends on the server. The main one is passworded. It's moot though, as we don't care about server passwording (that does not stop leaked games from starting up). In order to make real leaked copies you'd have have the server.dll, which only about 12 people have access to after an RC (all whom are ultra reliable).

I'd probably download a leaked copy, but not to try playing it; that'd probably just get me in trouble. Instead, I'd use HLMV, Wally, and GIMP to create some supar l33t desktop wallpapers.
• NecroNecro <insert non-birthday-related title here> Join Date: 2002-08-09 Member: 1118Members
yea as i said if i did get a leak i would try 2 stop it infact the ONLY reason i would download it would be 2 check it out on my own.

all you people are saying you would DL a leaked copy to see what it is like, but you forget one vital fact:

a leaked copy is *NOT* a representation of the final product, because its not finished yet.

I don't understand idiots who download leaked copies of things then gripe when they don't work, or if something isn't as good as they expected. Its crazy. If, in this case NS, were finished and didn't have these problems, it would be out.

So for those of you er33t hax0rs who get leaked crap, remember what you are getting, and don't ##### when it isn't what you expected.

No, but I'd tell Flayra that someone's been a naughty boy.

For those of you who say that you would download it but not continue the leak, downloading it in the first place is continuing the leak, and pretty soon it'll be; "Oh, well I think I'll just let me friend have it, and that's all...".

Anyway, I doubt such a scenario would ever happen, and it seems like if it did the Team has taken logical measures to ensure that it's not playable.

(However, don't you think the person who leaked the copy would leak the password as well?)

The only people with the ability to leak it (outside the team) would be the mappers, or the RC server ops. They would both stand to lose far more than they stand to gain.

They would lose their vitals, thanks to the crack PT-Retribution Ninja team.

Somebody find PyroWolf. I could see a great comic strip out of that.
• SkriftSkrift Join Date: 2002-09-25 Member: 1329Members
No, I wouldn´t. That would be just plain wrong. I´ve never understood what´s so great about leaks. They´re incomplete and won´t be compatible with the final product.
• GibbyGibby Join Date: 2002-04-26 Member: 518Members
Yeah I'd DL it111! Because I'm like that, impatient. Not like I'd be able to play it anywhere or do anything with it but I'd get l33t Irc pr0ps from my d00ds to be able to claim I got "NSz0rz" be-4 any-1 else got it11!

Seriously I wouldn't waste my bandwidth. Though I wouldn't worry too much if it DID get leaked. As far as "wrong" and "right" go, it's going to be free anyways, not like it's stealing, and one person with a leaked and probably incomplete copy is not going to ruin the fanatical PR blitz that Monse has planned.

Thank you Gibby, for not being serious there. You had me truly worried for a moment

Lets see. Download a completely unplayable and pointless peice of software. (as it is, to people without authorization)

Hmmmm.

Big choice

I'm content to keep checking the ReadyRoom for updates and screenies. They keep me happy.

Of course I would, just to see what happens. Leaks are like a preview. It might contain a working semi-tutorial or a half-finished manual, who knows.

And unless the copies contain a personal ID code, it would be impossible to find out who started the leak. The Internet is a pretty anonymous place, you know.

wrong wrong wrong. Game companies do NOT show the non-working parts of things (at least intentionally) to anyone, ever. Sometimes things mess up and they come out and say "ah well its a bug blah blah" but they never on purpose show something that they know is broken. Doing so is just stupid.

Also, and I speak from experience, it is relatively easy to find out who started a leak, especially in a tightly knit community (such as this one). And in some situations, leaking software could be considered illegal, and thus there could be legal ramifications. I'll laugh my ### off if I ever see some little hax0r get arrested (or sued at least) for uploading leaked things to various mediums.

So don't leak, mmkay?
