Now Ive read this and that about the new carapce, Im finding it quiet confusing, not cause its complicated but because people seem to be contradicting each other and Im not getting any real information. So please, could someone enlighten me to the true nature of the new carapace PLEASE.

Every point of armor that you have is equivalent to a certain number of health points. For example, marine armor is worth 2 points of damage for every 1 armor point. A base marine with 100HP and 25 armor would then have 150HP total. 150HP = the exact damage a focus skulk does.
Insert one level 1 upgrade and the marine's armor increases to 45 which increases his total health to 190HP.
You may be thinking "What does the marine armor system have to do with the carapace?"
In my personal experience, the new carapace functions almost identically to the marine's armor. Armor is supposed to get depleted totally before your health goes down, which is how this new carapace/armor system works.
However, with the aliens, the amount of HP each armor point represents is dependant upon the number of hives they have. Carapace doesn't do anything other than give you MORE armor. It doesn't increase the absorption values at all, it just increases your absorption buffer. The absorption values of marine armor are all the same throughout all three levels. Heavy armor's armor points absorbs 90% of all damage directed towards it's user.
I'm not sure if these are the correct ratios, but I forgot and my real computer's hard-drive died so I haven't played NS for about a week.
1 Hive = 1.4 HP per armor point
2 Hives = 1.9 HP per armor point
3 Hives = 2.4 HP per armor point
This new little system makes hives all the more important to obtain, since it goes a long way in increasing the longevity of even a silly skulk.
Like I said, I haven't played for like a week, so sorry for any inconsistencies. Heh, I'm not even sure if I'm right, so then this entire post would have been useless. Oh well, good to get thinking about these things again.
edit: wheeee, typing inconsistencies
