<div class="IPBDescription">More flavor for ns!</div>Sure. I don't have a problem with twisting mettalic corridors, I love what I've seen from NS's wonderful mapping community. But isn't the wonderful goodness of space stations and derelict ships getting too... Normal?
Here are some ideas for you mappers that you might like to think about after finishing your current projects! (Being that I have no mappings skills whatsoever. I can design maps, yes, but when it comes down to laying down polygons, I couldn't tell you how to make a cube. Though I'd defenitely like to in the future.) Anyway, others could post their ideas and thoughts here as well.
To get us started off:
Much like I imagine Jeff Paris' Six Days in Sanji, (where did it disappear to, anyway?) shiny glistening icy corridors are marked with numerous pipes and conduits. Fastened into the impossibly hard ice, they power the few doors, lights, and vents set around the station. Others run to the spewing jets of nanos set about the station where they were conveniently aiding miners. Aliens have taken up residence near three power generators giving off a steady suppy of heat. A command center is located at a southern hub. Numerous interconnected branches of the station spread out where precious minerals, many of which are strewn about and stored in vast crates, were being mined.
2:
A science station embedded into the solid rock of a giant meteoroid slowly rotates through the emptiness of space. It gathers data from the Supernova seen through the few scattered windows. At some of the deeper locations of the station, significant rock still remains visible under the recently-constructed sheets of metal. At the deepest point in the stations lies one of the hives. Another resides at a generator room. The third is built about the main nano storage facility upon the station. (or the data storage room, I dunno. Making this up off the top of my head. lol)The command center was quickly set up in the tiny docking bay of the space station. While easily guardable, there are still numerous entrances to the facility.
Think of the possibilities in these. In the ice planet, something could cause a conduit to collapse, conviniently revealing a natural fissure leading an alternate route to a location.
The nano storage facilities could be altered to allow new resources to be revealed or others to be shut off. (If that's possible in some way.)
I'm sure you can all think of other things... -Silarn

lol
at the moment ns hasnt even been released so there is bound to be maps that are just pure tech, when ns is released mappers will think of more creative maps and different ideas.
e.g. How about a crashed spaceship underwater and some compartments are filling up with water, some areas you could swim thru. Its not a complete cold tech lvl.
I dont see what you're trying to get at with that...
Anyway, I knew you couldn't make a node appear out of thin air.. I was thinking along the lines of a doorway, but the problem was with closing them off again.
I think you could also find a way to have 2 buttons or something that one marine and the commander or 2 marines need to press at the same time... I'm not sure how to link up the entities, but i'm positive it could be done.
Or a map based on the ship from Event Horizon. I still think an underwater map would be really cool though.
Well, based on screenshots of the maps that I've seen... I'm pretty sure that the mappers for NS are good enough. You would still have to make some new textures though...
Besides, of the 7 official maps, only 3 are actually space ships/stations (Bast, Nothing, and Nancy). Hera and Eclipse are both planetside installations, Tanith is a high-orbit research station (ok, so it's technically in an orbit higher than any spacestation available to us in today's world), and Caged is..umm.. I don't know, but it could be anything.
I'm rambing again. What i mean't to say was, i like theese ideas cause they get the brain going.
