The upper part of my spine is slightly askew, and it apperantly is squeezing blood vessels which gives me horrible neck and headaches.

Nothing good can come of this thing they call spine.

Is your back just misaligned, or are there some other problems that happen with scoliosis?

I have Scoliosis too, it's more common than you think (I believe my doctor said 1 in 20)

It's probably caused by bad posture (your position compared to the computer, your seat, etc) having regularly uneven weight on your shoulder (side bag) or another deformation, when you have one leg much longer than the other (that means a cm or two)

Im in that last case and I got a special sole in one of my shoes.

Hopefully you caught it soon enough so no surgery is required. <!--emo&:0--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wow.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wow.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    What is the brace like?

[edit] I'm sure that this is an extreme exaggeration after a little more perusal. Not to freak you out or anything. Sorry. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

dont get this guy scared, scoliosis isn't always that severe, mine's really really light <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    A sole, and a little kinesitherapy and I'm more or less normal <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Don't let him fool you! Half of all cases of scoliosis result in above average pain and deformity!

Scoliosis runs in my family, i discovered i had it when i saw an X-ray they took me to check if there was something weird in my neck .

Mine isnt that severe, im doing my best to sit straight now.

the brace should help, I'm sure... and if the worst case scenario is needing a little surgery, that's not so bad -- we all have to get surgery sometimes... hehe... had knee surgery a couple years ago... I'm sure back surgery is more involved, but still, you'd be unconscious, and you'd wake up in better shape... it's a good thing it can be fixed, one way or the other, is all I'm saying...

I have about an 18 degree twist in mine, bad posture. The brace should fix you right up, and teach you how to sit right as well.

Physical activity is good for it too.

I've got scoliosis/bad posture too. At this point, all I need to do is sit up straight every fricking minute of every fricking day, and it should get mildly better over a large period of time.

Spines suck. Invertebrates have it easy.

think of it this way, its a little more positive. While an operation sucks, and the healing is gonna be a pain in the rear, in the long run you will have gotten better quicker and be able to do some stuff you wouldnt be able to earlier. best of luck with it, and just take care of yourself so you heal quicker.

I'm sure they wouldn't prescribe an operation unless it was absolutely neccessary/is going to save you an incredible amount of suffering in the long run.

Of course, it's always good idea to get another opinion or two.

I think if you did some physical movement every once in a while, that could help.....run for 10 min every day or somthin <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
