I've begun work on ns_growth, which will be a semi-open forest based map.

I don't have much, and I'm still trying to figure out the best way to stop the ground and "sky" from generating insane rspeeds.

Anyway, heres a small shot taken in Hammer, a few textures need realignment, and maybe some more wall doo-hickeys, but, yeah... 'n stuff.

Edit: Bah, I hate .gif files...

Maybe you should make it a space station of some kind with forests inside, like ecopods or something. It would be a nice change from the usual gritty dark space stations you see on the forums. You could base a theme around it.

Why not just leave it in an actual forest?

    Edit: Although, I am intrigued...

Quick compile for some ingame shots perhaps <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> But it looks nice even without any lighting.

So, should I leave it on a planet, or make "forest spacestation"?

The spacestation idea interests me, I like the blending of nature and technology, but a planet can help give it a better "feel".

The problem is that when you make an outdoor area it makes it hard for skulks. No places to drop down from, getting stopped by an invisible ceiling etc.

ah well since skulks can walk on the sky brushes, they can divebomb from that <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo--> Keep this in mind and fix it (blockers and other kinds of stuff to stop that darn skulky) since even hera is NOT fixed and yet official <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

First off, I can't take credit for the tree, its a DoD model.

Second, this outdoor map is good for Skulks. This forest has a dense canopy, so Skulks can crawl on that.

Edit: So, do you think it should be in an actual forest, or on some sort of forest-space-station... thing.

watch al the jurassic part movies. now you know what I think about this ^^ why not make a high-tech area that looks little "old" and many spots are "recovering" from the architecture, break bars, ceils, roots growing out of the floorplates, anything like that. I like this idea. dont make a complete forest, this will most likely fail.

seems cool, you could make it a plant vegetation area, inside a marine base or something <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

For the story, it would be more sensible if it was a civilian base not a marine one. Generally big gardens/forests aren't considered necessary by the military.

They might use it to produce oxegen and food <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->

maybe, but then why only one tree, and park benches and paths...

[edit] also i'm pretty sure they would have figured out a synthetic way of producing oxygen from CO2, considering they have phase technology <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->.

Thats just one tree on a building.

I was messing around earlier, making lots of massive trees, and stuff. I think a complete forest will look bad, so I may just do the space-station thing.
