Actually the idea is very smart, you just dont see it.
Some people have 12+ keys bound to various things looking at your keyboard and seeing the pictures means you dont have to check your config if you forget where they are.
I only have 1 key bound as a hotkey and thats lastinv the rest i just use the right click menu for (quick and simple)
Why do you think games come with cardboard cut outs that you can place over your keyboard to see the keys, delta force land warrior springs to mind.

.....why do you people not know a good idea when you see one, this can be used for people with learning problems as they learn to match the key with the picture and so learn what it does..
At least if your going to say its crap, give a reason why its crap..
2) sadest. idea. ever.
3) best. episode. ever.

It also helps to alias off all the commands.

The six keys above the arrow keys correspond to each of the six structures.
The numbers on the keypad correspond to each of the nine upgrades.
The keypad Enter, +, -, *, and / keys correspond to the five lifeforms.
Finally, the keypad Delete and Insert are for the Hive 2, and Hive 3 abilities in Combat.
I can't say much for the Marine configuration, though. It's all over the place!
However, all the Armor and Weapon upgrades use only one key each, by the use of scripting. Perhaps some of you might find it useful (shown below).
<!--QuoteBegin--></div><table border='0' align='center' width='95%' cellpadding='3' cellspacing='1'><tr><td><b>QUOTE</b> </td></tr><tr><td id='QUOTE'><!--QuoteEBegin-->bind <key> "armor1"
alias armor1 "impulse 20; bind <key> armor2"
alias armor2 "impulse 21; bind <key> armor3"
alias armor3 "impulse 22; bind <key> armor1"
bind <key> "weapon1"
alias weapon1 "impulse 23; bind <key> weapon2"
alias weapon2 "impulse 24; bind <key> weapon3"
alias weapon3 "impulse 25; bind <key> weapon1"<!--QuoteEnd--></td></tr></table><div class='postcolor'><!--QuoteEEnd-->
After implementing the script, all you have to do to upgrade a level in either category, is to press the designated button once. The looped script makes it so that if you accidentally press it more than once and make it go out of sequence, it'll correct itself if you press it a couple more times.
Yeah, it is sad, but its very efficient.
Some of you can be complete jerks.
I have no life!
But, its there, and its done.
"oh god where is obs lab....OH GOD!!!111eleven"
When your team is screaming "IP IP IP!!!!111(punctuation?)11!!!!", you decide to act!
To bad you're so tired you hit Phase Gate.
Then, you are obliged to scream "TEH CRAPZ0RZ!!"
Thx!
You win.
I think its ingenious - i'd use a few of em, but it would annoy me when playing other games. And it would annoy me to put em on and off everytime. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->
All 70 symbols are there in one picture.
You know, they should print these on individual keys and sell them in the NS store. Then you can just swap keys out.
