Saw the post below me and decided i'd do the same, vent.

Couple weeks ago im out for a walk, only gone a couple hours, I come back to my condo and the doors wide open. Odd i says to myself. I walk in and found that some motherless crackhead bastid had pried open the patio door, cleaned house of my electronics (CD's, PS2, stereo, TV, VCR) and used one of my own goddamned kit bags to put em in. Also he lit a fire in the fireplace for whatever reason. I call the cops, they show up a couple hours later, basically say "Tough luck" and split. Fingerprint guy and a detective show up at about 1:30 AM, at which point im steaming **** off and ready to take a walk over to Spryfeild there and commence to crackin skulls. Fingerprint guy and the detective say basically the same thing and split. Right now im busy with the insurance bastids, whose basic mode of operation is to bend you over the sink for every cent they can. I figured i lost about 5 grand in stuff, and I will do a jig if the insurance leeches will buy that. There, vented.

I had stuff stolen out of my truck before, amp, cd player, cd case of about 15 CDs, speakers. It told the cop it was about $500 worth of stuff, and then later I calculated it up again and found out it was only about $300 worth of stuff. About a month later they caught the guy, who had to pay me the full $500 from his own pocket

V-MAN, as my dad always says: Make sure they're dead so there's only 1 side of the story.

    BadKarma: That sucks man. :(

When I was younger our house was burglarized, had about $2000 worth of stuff stolen. Turns out it was my brother. :/ Parents did press charges though, and he deserved every bit of what he got.

He was like 25 at the time, living outside of the house (he moved out when he was like 16 after dropping out of high school), always had been in trouble. He went to jail other stuff to around the same time he burgled our house.

That was like 15 years ago now though... He got out of jail, lived a few years, screwed up again and is still inside, though should be out again in a year or two. Family has a bet going of how long it takes before he goes back.

Unfortunaly I live in the UK where criminals have more rights than the victims and we ain't allowed to defend ourselves/property cos our incompetant police force is supposed to do that for us.....

I am pretty sure there are laws allowing you to defend yourself and your property. Not sure how the whole system works.

There have been a few cases where the burglar has sued (and won) on cases where the owner of the house laid the smack down on the guy, but didn't finish him off. If I remember, they were because they chased the guy a few blocks before catching him, though.

The system works only in that you're allowed to defend yourself if you feel your life or the lives of your loved ones are in danger. It does not justify beating the living crap out of them. Or tying them to a chair and keeping them in your garage for a week (a friend of mine's dad did this, heh. Or so he claims anyway)

I always wondered... in those cases in which the criminal sues the owner of the house... is there a jury involved?
  • MoquiaoMoquiao Join Date: 2003-05-09 Member: 16168Members
thats the thing... the legal side is very cloudy...

its seen as eye for an eye i think... *think* as in.. if somebody comes at you with a bat.. with intention to hit you with it.. u can hit them with that.. h owever if you stabbed them... it would be considered not nessecary.. or soemthing ridiculous..

theres the classic of the burglar who fell thru a skylight and hit a knife. sued the owner.

it makes me sick.. it really does.. in a country where people get away with that.

around here we dont have that everyone is local enough... we all know who is who.. my house was attempted on a few years back.. but its a victorain place the front door is like 4 inches thick. trying to kick it in.. didnt work.

and the glass wasnt tho so they broke a few panes of glass panelling on the door.. then i came down yelled oi.. they ran off.. i got dressed and went out looking.. then ironically.. got stopped by the police myself.. useless F'n ****.. lol it was my own house?! but the day after my sisters bf found them... and yeah... its harsh and probarbly not neccesary.. but they got what they deserved imo.

I hate that whole "criminal gets more rights than victim" thing. I remember a buglar sued a victim because he fell through the glass skylight on to a knife and got a small cut.

    f* that.

if somebody comes into my house ready to steal my stuff, pff. it's time to distribute a beatdown.

now, i wouldn't shoot him, though i could..

i'd probably just bat him unconscious.

Hmm... got a couple midievil swords around the house from various ren fairs... that'd be pretty damn evil though to come at a burglar with a sword, taking off limbs of the robber is probably considered excessive...

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shined his flashlight around looking for valuables, and when he picked up a VCR to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, "Jesus is watching you." He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight out and froze. When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised himself a long vacation after his next big score, then clicked the light back on and began searching for more valuables. Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, "Jesus is watching you." Freaked out, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot... "Did you say that?" he hissed at the parrot. "Yep," the parrot confessed, then squawked, "I'm just trying to warn you." The burglar relaxed. "Warn me, huh? Who the heck are you?" "Moses," replied the bird. "Moses?" the burglar laughed. "What kind of people would name a parrot Moses?" The bird promptly answered, "Probably the same kind of people that would name a 140 pound Rottweiler Jesus."
