The Particle System

Templates
I know the particle system for NS is quite powerfull but it also can be kind of confusing also. I was thinking it would be nice to have a thread where there were templates for some common particle systems like steam, precipitation, sparks, etc.

I'd like to have a topic where people could either post the settings for a particle system or post a small rmf with the particle system already configured.

Feel free to just ignore this post though if yall think it's a bad idea. It could also be phased to the help and troubleshooting forum although I posted it here because I thought it would be more of a resource for mappers.

Yeah but env_sparks is rather lacking don't you think.

nah don't think so it work perfectly for broken lights and has a spark sound --> minus one entity. But to have the sparks over a large area, like that scene from terminator 2 where the T-1000 goes after Arny and his crew, just after the scene with the liquid hydragen. That should use a particle system
Many more movies use it to

Since I think it's a good idea I'll post the setting for my steam and rain settings from achio... Ah, mayb even put the *.map online standby

    [edit] typos etc...

I doubt it would be added but maybe it would also be benefitial to add a sound effect to the particle system to make it more usuefull. Because often you want a sound to go with your particle system and I don't remember the thread (link below) but XPCagey had a discussion with Flayra and all entitiys basicially contribute the same amount of processing drain. Maybe it would be usefull to add this functionality to help reduce the number of entities even by a little bit.

Edit: Here's the post even if it's a tad off topic for the thread.

those sparks from t2, hmm, seem like it would be the same as raindrops/splash just a different color/sound. Interesting, neva thought of that one.

But, a compilation of particle systems I dont think would work. Cause you always would have to change it depending on yer map and the usage. I suggest getting a copy of nstr, I keep it around just for particle systems.

I'm guessing all NSTR dl's are dead by now huh?

hmm dunno I always use a test.map, small with all the basic needs for a ns map and I can't seem to find nspr...
    - readyroom with 2 jointeams.
    - cc.
    - hive.
    - 2 spawns.
    - only 3 lights for fast compile.
    - big enough area to test the stuff.

ah well this link is that very test.map for achio ^_^

click has 2 particle systems. (steam and raindrops)

That addition if added/possible to the PS would be nice.

Bind toggleeditps to a key. It works again in 3.0, but you can't use the command from console or the mouse won't work, you need it bound to a key.

I knew that that command had gotten 'broken' but I didn't know it had been fixed. Thanks for the info. It still might nice to have some common PS already set up though.

KungFuDiscoMonkey I see something going wrong in this thread...

Imagin this. People post their PS during the thread... It all seems to me it would be very annoying to know where and what PS are posted.
Maybe you could keep editing the first post and add the links to the posted PS and a brief discription?

There's no need to post any standard particle systems (smoke, waterdrops, steam etc) since they can be found just by looking at a map which has these in use, but if people instead would post non-conventional particle systems and new innovations. That should really be the point of this thread.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind rewriting the first post to keep up with posted particle systems. I mainly wanted to a)get some discussion to see if this would work and b) if it would work get something organized.
