<div class="IPBDescription">screens :)</div> co_ares

(Name history: Ares was the Greek god of war, and he was also said to be cruel. He is often depicted carrying a bloodstained spear. His throne on Mount Olympus was said to be covered in human skin, plus that his Roman name was Mars, and the planet my map is set on is alot like Mars. Anyway...)

I've been working on this map for a while now. It's around 50% finished, I'd say. I don't quite have a backstory yet, but I can do that later.

Anyway, here are some pics.

<img src='http://shdwstal.temporal-sands.com/marinestart1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
This is my marine start. Yes, it's an outside area. Yes, it *used* to have a forcefield, but not anymore. I've put a clip brush at the top. So, well, complain all ya want, but the outside is staying. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Also, I'm not quite done here. I'm gonna make a bit more roughness to the ground and add more rocks for cover, plus a few places on the cliffs where you will be able to hide.
PS: this pic is kinda old.

<img src='http://shdwstal.temporal-sands.com/co_ares0001.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
A hallway leading from my marine start. Not much to say about it.

<img src='http://shdwstal.temporal-sands.com/co_ares0002.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Just some room. Custom texture on the screen. Like it? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo--> (it says "Warning. Possible Kharaa infestation detected. Distress call sent. System locked. comm:>_")

<img src='http://shdwstal.temporal-sands.com/co_ares0003.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
This is some sort of room.

<img src='http://shdwstal.temporal-sands.com/co_ares0004.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
Inspired by DarkATi. <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Looks terrific! Especially the MS looks very nice! I really would like to see more pics!
    But why not a forcefield in the outdoor area? You could make it so that it is visible only when a player is near it so it wouldn't ruin the atmosphere.
    Keep up the good work!

    Thanks.
    Oh, I couldn't find a good forcefield texture, plus I kinda like it without it because I think it feels more "natural". Also, the forcefield limited movement a bit. But your idea might work. I'll have to see later sometime. <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Right now I'm trying to figure out a good design for the hive. I was thinking about making the hive inside but the hiveroom itself outside, though that idea failed.

    Looking v nice, make sure you align the texture properly on that pipe in pic #5 though. Also consider making an overlay texture for the monitor screen, you could make the text stand out really well. Sprites, eh? If so, where? I do have a couple of sprites, though they might not be obvious in the screenshots.

    OI! where did this one come from... I didn't see this thread before. Ah well must have overlooked it...

    I like the look of it, but that Lava strikes me a bit odd. The wall next to it would be extremely hot I should think. So maybe add some warning stripes near it or create some space between the wall and the part which contains the lava.
    I do like the contrast of the lava vs the darker corridor.

    Overall the lava issue needs a little more attentions, but the map looks good <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Comment all ya wish, but I know the rocks need editing, and I also am going to add lots more cover for skulks. I will also try and fix that weird shadow effect under the generators. (yes, those are generators..)

    BTW: new sky by DarkATi. I haven't edited the light_environment yet. Which one do you guys like best? 'halo2_' (this one) or 'mars'?

    perhaps change the lava to some kind of acid or sludge? A pipe going through molten lava would get melted, and the metal casing of that molten lava + floor would both get melted also, so yeah, change it to something a little more realistic pwease <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    On that spotlight issue, I still reckon you should add the spots. It'd give it a more realistic feel... If it was nanites projecting that light, the point they were projecting it from would be bright.

    Hmm. I'm thinking of replacing the lava in the center of the room and making that area into another mini-outside area (you won't be able to go out though). The lava by the rocks is staying though.

    Yes, I'm not done. I've added a bit more detail, and I'm currently working outside now and making rocks, bumpy ground and other details.

    I know. I was gonna do that later too. I just can't seem to work on an area for too long, before starting a new one. I mean, I'm not even done with my marine start, heh.
