of classic-only servers going?
Hey there,
I'm a lil frustrated with the base nature of combat, and was wondering if it'd be a good idea to start up a thread listing off good servers for ns classic (ie., servers generally populated by non-noobs who understand the meaning of teamwork). I figure this way at least we can attach ourselves to some positive play experiences for those who enjoy the classic games of old.

Thanks a lot clem!

Yo I got something for you:
Server-Database

If you look in the table you will find a collum called cycle. Just look for the ns-only ones.
You can also add your server to this database by clicking here.

We will than check your submitted data and activate your server entry.
enjoy

Classic-only servers run on questionable logic. Combat's original purpose is to get enough players to join to have a round of classic, rather than having a lot of empty servers. So, by turning off combat, you have an empty classic game running. Not exactly an improvement.

Sure, lots of people quit when the map changes to an ns one, but I imagine that will end when combat isn't so new and shiny.

How about just configging your server to switch to classic when there are players(map time limit of about 8 minutes or so and set up map cycle correctly), rather than skip the combat?

Our Server over at readyroom.de is NS-Classic only and it always full, not in the morning but in the afternoon and or prime time it is hard to get a open slot there.

Well after some troubles with our server host The Haven is finally back up and running. Though if you arent willing to communicate with your team and/or dont follow your comms waypoints then dont expect to be on the server for very long :/.

If it's full, it won't change maps to combat anyway.

Am I just plain stupid, or is the filtering option in Steam missed by people?
• OutlawOutlaw Join Date: 2003-10-29 Member: 22112Members
there is a filter option in steam but you don't know if the next map in the server's cycle will be a combat map or not.
Also, if you play on a server playing NS but isn't dedicated, it is likely there will be a bunch of people who don't really know what they are doing in NS because the previous map was a CO, for instance. It's also a server that is more likely to play the "who will be the comm?" game.

Just list the servers, if we start rating them and talking about the admins it will probably get locked because of content. If we just get a big list up, it might even get stickied.

afaik that would set you up to play on servers that are currently running an ns map. It could be a combat server too. Unless I'm mistaken.
