I understand the frustration with the current scanner sweep.
Personally I hate all of the automated anti-stealth and inteligence tools in ns (motion tracking, scent of fear). I think in a strategy game you should have to work harder for that kind of complete information, the element of stealth and strategy is what makes the game for me, and fully automated tools just ruin it.
As far as scanner sweep: I think your suggestions would make it too useless to the people who use it now. Personally I already consider it useless, because I don't care where the aliens are, 90% of them will warn me with footsteps before they attack anyway, plus my goal is to kill the hive not hunt cloakers.
I also prefer to my sneaking au naturale, so scanner sweep doesn't affect me in any way on either team. Over all I think the advantage should go to the sneaker not the sneakee.
This is combat, it is supposed to be different from NS.
For the same reason, aliens with only 1-2 kills have a lvl3 upgrade. And for the same reason they can have all the upgrades, not only 1 for each chamber.
For the same reason, marines spawns with all the weapons/upgrades they buyed.
Regarding possibility with scanner sweep, remember in late games a lvl1 shotgun isn't that hassle, so u should chose: go for scanner sweep? so you'll have only a shotgun (scanner + lvl1 wep + shot + lvl2 + resupply + shotgun + lv3 wep + lvl 1 armor + lvl2 armor + lvl3 armor)
Of course you could have a lvl1 armor, but if u don't get jp or ha, you probably are not that problem for the alien side. At least unless u rest in base.
Scanner sweep is a difficult choice. If u get it, u can be stopped from developing the rest.
Yeah, I don't see the problem with scanner sweep at all. You spend a point to be invisible, the opponent spends a point to take that invisibility away.
Also, about ambushing: you don't have to wait for the marine to round the corner to attack him. As you hear him get close to the corner, jump around and attack, making him have to react to you. Leap is also an ability you should get very soon; it's almost essential to close the distance if the marines refuse to advance and walk into an ambush.

Note that unlike MT (which only gives MT to one marine), sweep gives anti-cloaking to everyone in the area.
It also takes no "skill" to use sweep; by being triggered automatically, it takes away any human element. If it had to be triggered manually, people would forget to sometimes, they wouldn't be able to do it during fights, etc.

Anyway, cloaking isnt really worth it. The only use i can see with cloaking is on a mid-level gorge so that he can web more easily.

One person on alien team gets cloaking, kills a bunch of marines going one route. Someone on marines gets scanner sweep and goes the opposite way, encountering no cloaked aliens, essentially wasting a point while the alien still reaps all the rewards of cloaking.

Anyway, during the semi-closed beta a lot of you **** got cloaking as your first upgrade. It was always cloak + focus. So because of the wide spread tactic I almost always got scanner sweep. Only when that situation occurs do I ever get it.

Scanner sweep is the only way we can not get all out jumped by cloakers.
