<div class="IPBDescription">Screens? Sure, maybe a few...</div> Ok, after some long work at just getting one room to look properly, I figured I could post some info on this very early work-in-progress map of mine.
It is named Norad2, named off of the crashed battlecruiser of Starcraft fame (unfortunately, I cannot make the layout look like a battlecruiser's outline because it would be too linear in some places, specifically the middle.) Alien bacterium has somehow entered the battlecruiser in 3 specific areas: Starboard Engine, Central Generator, and Port Docking (names are only temporary, as I haven't even gotten to a point in the layout to place a hive.) The Frontiersmen have been dispatched from the Bridge to eliminate the threat.

This first shot is just one angle of the RR:

Another angle of the RR:
A random hallway, testing out a certain lighting style:
EDIT: Also, the, erm...........low screenshot quality to reduce the filesize.....
In that RR, please either change or re-align the glass texture. It looks really messed up right now.
That lighting style (third pic) doesn't look quite right either. All those colors make it look like a circus or something.
I dont like the ready room symbols, the CC and the Hive etc..just looks a tad over the top.
The third pic, the lights look confused and clash.
It looks like a stereotypical Disco setting.

Your map yeah..
Can't see much...
Also align the textures (RR) and maybe add some more equipment since what I can make out, the RR is just one big box. Not sure about the join icons, they look out of place somehow.
<span style='color:gray'>jpg tip:
you could use jpg with a compresion of 60-70%. The filesize would be 60kb-100kb and look much better. Still below the 120kb maximum.</span>
Kouji San, what do you mean by overlays? I'm afraid I haven't seen that term used before as far as mapping goes. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
EDIT: To all who view: Don't comment about texture alignment, please. I'm not that worried about it right now since I don't even have a fourth of my map's layout complete.
Check ou the floorlights in the next link. Someone in my thread gave me that tip to <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
<a href='http://members.home.nl/m.borgman/ns-forum/ns_achio/ns_achio31.jpg' target='_blank'>achio floorlight overlay</a>
EDIT: Ok, first I have gamma problems, then some brush problems, and now, totally unrelated, the board is giving me some siggie problems. <!--emo&???--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/confused.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='confused.gif' /><!--endemo-->
EDIT2: Ok, all fixed. Back to work now <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Can you explain it to me with some detail?
So, basically, let's say you have a brush here that's texture with light_panel01.
(bad ASCII art ahead)
___
[__]
Now, to put an overlay over that, we simply put a 1 unit thick brush over it.
___
[__][] <- overlay
We assign the overlay fx_lgt_panel01 and then make it an entity. Choose either func_wall or func_illusionary. Set Render Mode to Additive and FX Amount to 255. Now give the texlighting value to the overlay (eg fx_lgt_panel01 in this case).
Understand? <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
I can do that with the light strips in the RR, but those lights in that hallway can't be done like that unless I edited the textures and cut out the lights themselves and surrounded them with black. I'm not good at art when it comes to textures. <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->
EDIT: D'oh! Timing! You used textures that I'm using for a certain door......It is green when the door's closed and red when it's open.
PS: sorry for the post spam :/
I would have explained it, but my dad is having his birthday this evening so I don't have time. Just checking the forum now since I kind of expected the question.
Ah well... it's explained, gtg the snacks have arrived <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The first one is mars2, the one in the first 2 screenshots of my Ready Room. The second one is one I downloaded called stars_, displayed in the screenshot below.
STARS_:
off topic:
You have a fps count higher then 100. How, I thought that the hl engine can't go higher then 100 <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> (or did you set the fps max higher then 100fps)
My Radeon 9800XT 256 mb should be able to do that to I should think. I never get above 100.0fps...
[edit]
troublesome, ugh typos
To off-topic: I set fps_max to 101, instead of 100. Usually when I used to set fps_max to 100, it would never actually go 100, it would always max at 99 for some reason. This may have been a bug in WON and fixed on Steam, I don't know. It's just been a habit I guess.
On another note, I'm still looking for opinions on which skymap I should use. Right now I still have STARS_ set, but that is not a final change. Look in previous posts for the shots of the two skyboxes. Thanks <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
