Offensive Mining Tactic

<div class="IPBDescription">Very painful....</div> You can't possibly justify this tactic.

What you do with your marines is you gives them mines <b>and let them run around the map rampant in sneaky places where aliens would pass</b>

Now your thinking 'WTH has this got to do with offensive mining?' Just hear me out.

While their carrying their mines, and happen to hear an Onos coming, they can plant a defensive line in front of them to help deal some damage to it.

Or if they going to siege, they use the mines as another defensive line to help deter off any incoming skulks without wasting bullets

Or even mine near alien RTs and shoot them a bit. You'll never know how many times the gorges on my team fell for that and tried to heal the RT only to step on a mine :O

I've had these tactic used against me, and I thought it would be worth sharing <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

And another tactic is to mine the hiveroom's floors randomly. You'll never know when a gorge runs rampant in a hiveroom <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

And f you could share....well.... <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    Well I have to admit I came into this thread expecting to see a story about a commander dropping an armory right outside the hive and spamming mines for his marines to lay all over the hive, inside and out. Which, is lame, but I dont see much of it anymore. However, everything you described sounds like a perfectly valid use of the mine to me. I mean it doesnt say anywhere that you have to use mines to protect your base and structures, first of all.

    Then theres the fact that mines in general are made to kill enemies... (duh), and where else better to put them than high traffic enemy areas. I mean thats the point of landmines... to kill enemies/disrupt troops without you having to... Even the part about the onos, weakening the enemy before its attacked, all sounds good to me.

    1 mine = 1 dead skulk. With even L1 weps, 1 mine = 1 dead cara skulk. And this, is the most dominant feature of the mine, and should be ABUSED in the early game before fades and onos. (Onos now can take about 20 mines ... and mines can't be stacked, so don't bother...)

    1-2 packs of mines + occasional marine = defended base. Cheaper than 30 res electricity, and kills fast instead of slow sentries.

    As stated, mines are the best way of defending an early siege. Good aimers do squat if their own turrets block their bullets. Mines counter that. On attacks, drop mines at chokepoints behind your team to prevent backstabbing, and around the attack point to kill hopping skulks.

    Random mines behind a door, around a corner, in a dark spot keeps skulks in the spawn queue. People can't be on high alert every single second, and it is uber annoying to blow up while travelling between hives.

    If knifing alien RTs, 2 mines around the RT does wonders. You can knife the RT with impunity and in safety, with no effort needed to aim.

    Mining like that does help early game, and I've seen successful early rushes detered (after rines leave base undefended).

    The one problem is that parasites can deal with them if the base is unattended so its a risk unto itself
