Alien anims

Whats up with it?
Okay, a couple of questions:
As mentioned before, when an alien evolves you can see it from an egg-view: does this go for every type of alien? I mean if a fade evolves into an onos, will it have a bigger or smaller eggthing than a skulk would? And on another question- is there a cool breaking out of an egg animation when evolution is comple? Because I can see an onos just tearing out of an egg, but if it is the same size as everyone else than wouldn't that make it a little silly, a huge onos just emergin from a tiny egg...

When you evolve you stay in first person view actually.
• ZawathZawath Join Date: 2002-07-28 Member: 1020Members
But other aliens and marines will see the egg
• QUADQUAD Join Date: 2002-07-17 Member: 963Members
True, but jops was confused, he thought that you went into 3rd person veiw.

he didn't neccesarily say that the alien evolving goes to third person only that an evolving alien can be seen as an egg. But anyways, are there transitional animations?

No, the egg is the same size and shape for every evolution, even for upgrades. (maybe new eggs in future versions?)
• JopsJops Join Date: 2002-09-13 Member: 1312Members
No, thats not what I meant- I didn't mean that they go into 3rd person, I meant that while in first person they have a half egg view, from INSIDE the egg, this was posted by some dev or pt in an earlier post.

Woah, normally the PTS and Devs are hot on topics like this... maybe because they are too busy putting the final touches on the game pushing for sometime next week...
ughh I better not push my luck

The view is the same, for every evolution, maybe version 2, you will see other HUD's.

I believe the current question is about animations, not the view of the player.

There are no special animations for each different class.

Once the gestating is complete, the egg disappears and the alien appears in its place.

Sure, its fairly crude, but it works and if it weren't for things like this, what would be have left to do for v2.0?

thanks for the info. One more question, while evolving is damage any different? as in do you take more or less damage then normal? just curious.

from the tales from the frontlines thread, it appears an egg is extremely easy to destroy
• MoebiusMoebius Join Date: 2002-08-01 Member: 1045Members, Constellation
Well an egg is probably a little easier to hit

should be fixed up for version 2, i mean a thousand pound ohnos popping out of a 2 foot wide egg would look kind of silly wouldnt it? then agian if im a marine and witness this event i'll more lilkey be concerned with running away as fast as my legs will take me

Yes, V2 definately.

At this moment, anything that would hold up the release of NS deserves to be dragged behind an Indy car, in a plastic paper bag with a rabid weasel, whose teeth have been replaced with lye injectors, and who'se fur is inhabited by thousands upon thousands of poisonious spiders.

Then, this painful monstrosity should be thrown out in front of the running of the bulls.

I don't know, I think he's talking sense.

We can always dust the ideas off after v1.0 comes out...

I don't think we will have to worry for much longer. The PR blitz has already begun.

Don't jump to conclusions... the news at readyroom is of screenshots recognizing each of the official maps (and they all deserve recognition&#33. As it's not news being posted at *other* sites, I don't think it's the Great PR Blitz.

On topic: An egg has 100 health and 150 armor, IIRC. It's fairly easy to kill.

Eggs are easy to kill mostly because they don't move or shoot back. Just make it quick, you never know just when that alien is gonna finish gestating and be quite ticked-off at you.

I think you would notice if a huge level 5 would suddenly pop up from nowhere .

Here, let me explain (marines like eggs for breakfast, dont they?):

as was said, they do want to have this added in later (I believe this was said) however the current look is 'wait for vers2)

If an alien is evolving in an egg, a marine comes along and shoots him up a bit (not quite killing him, because some other alien trounces him before hand) does the alien hatch with less HP because of the damage he took in egg form?
• ScytheScythe Join Date: 2002-01-25 Member: 46NS1 Playtester, Forum Moderators, Constellation, Reinforced - Silver
I believe that you come out of the egg with full health and armour. This is applicable for all situations including when you evolve to something else with a low health to begin with.

I would like to see bigger eggs for bigger aliens but I think the hatching animations might be a bit too much.

What happens if an alien hatches into an Onos inside a vent?

Simple: you can't evolve to an Onos in a vent. You can only evolve in places where you have enough room for your 'end creature' to come out in.
