<div class="IPBDescription">Post your ns strats here</div>Alright, before you go any farther, know this:

1) After reading Hum's most recent TftFL, I decided it would be a good idea to find out what strategies the PTs have found to work.

2) I'm pretty sure a topic like this was already started, but I think that was before the NDA liftage.

3) I'm actually interested, I'm not just posting cause I want my 100th post <!--emo&:p--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':p'><!--endemo-->.

4) Um...

    eh, I dont really have one.  When I'm a Marine I do what I'm told, when I'm an alien I kill Marines and when I'm the commander I yell in my voice comm and tell people they're idiots ...

    /me shrugs

    Humbaba is deffinatly the best strat guy out there ...

    A few main principles I try and follow:

    <b>Marines</b>
    - Try and secure a hive within the first 5-10 minutes of a game. Even if you are low on RP, 2 hives is better than 3 hives and lots of resources waiting on upgrades.
    - When building and you get attacked, let the other guy try and kill it, you usually can get the building (better if a turret) online in that time. If he dies, but you live and get the building online, who cares about him <!--emo&;)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=';)'><!--endemo-->
    As you can see, I don't command lots (cause I suck), so I just think a dead alien is a good alien.

    <b>Aliens</b>
    - Parsiting a marine is better than killing when it isn't at your hive or en route.
    - Webs and turrets just around a corner is a great tactic. I hear lots "AWWW F*CK!" and just smile as a expensive marine dies, and I'm halfway across the map. Just ask Monse about how great webs are!
    - A lerk with umbra is a god, and great for base killing, take a pack of these in, and any base is in trouble unless marines had a nade launcher
    - Protecting a builder in the early stages of the game is a good idea
    - Uh.. yah, I should sleep <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://www.natural-selection.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->

    My strategy is to check the front page for signs of release, then head to the forums where I post once in a while if I see something I like. Next I'll read some bedtime stories from Tales from the Front Line. After all that I take a razor blade and carve another marking somewhere on my body, counting the days of suffering without this game. I find I get the best results when I leave the razor part to the end, that way I'm not sitting at the computer bleeding on the keyboard or anything like that.

    Hope this works for you!

    As a commander for the marine side, I strongly lean towards going very light on the initial base construction - usually just the infantry portal, turret factory, and two turrets - then send out the troops to a hive, usually whichever one is closest.

    If it's a large game, fortify the hive if it's empty.  If it's a small game, sweep across to the next hive room, in search of the occupied initial hive room.

    In small games, searching out and destroying the initial hive ASAP is both more feasable and more desirable than hanging around trying to gather resources.

    Whereas in a large game, the opposite is true - take and hold, take and hold.  First, denying a hive from the enemy is a good thing.  Second, the hive rooms often have node emplacements inside, and Third, are usually easily defended.  In a pinch, they make good second command bases.

    NEVER underestimate the power of a skulk rush.  I can't remember how many times I've seen the marines (on a winning streak) loose when 2-3 skulks rush up and get into the CC room.  If you can sneak by the turrets, the CC is your tastey reward.

    I'm under the delusion that tactics are fluid.  There are things you can do in situations (Skulk rush, Lerks with Umbra and other aliens, Ohnos and Fades, etc) but what happens in game is that the game's situation forces you to piece together this knowledge on the spot.

    Because, you know what they say about plans in the military.  The best plan only lasts until the first gunshot.  Yeah, so, confused yet?
