<div class="IPBDescription">and they fell through?</div> I've had a couple of plans.... that just never went anywhere...
Like creating the complex for Aliens move....
Just seemed too much at the time, and i found out that someone is working on it now anyways..

The above map, i eventually dropped anyways, it was going to be too big, and the map exceeded the max view distance and all kinda of other problems...
that was when I strated thinking: I made a part for my map that took months, than I had to redo it to a rr cause the playability IN the map was horrible... and finally had to drop it cause of the polycount.
I made a room exspecially for the cc at the marinestart, a kind of cyberspace environment, it felt colt and little bit creepy, all this computer around you and not the slightest present of something organic.
I had to drop it cause it didnt fit into the map theme.
we drop ideas and get new ones all the time. but there is no wasted time, even if you remove half of a map. there are only some deathends on the way to success. if you step into one, just turn around and walk another way. that keeps things dinamic.

This is actually my first hallway ever. If I'm not wrong I made it the same day I downloaded VHE, and I was reading mapping guides while building it. I think I made it one or two days after the release of NS 1.0.
The whole map was surrounded by a huge sky-box and everything about the map just sucked. The map was named ns_overture and was supposed to look like the Discovery spaceship from 2001: A space odyssey. I worked hard with it for a couple of days, then I started a new map... <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
[EDIT]...and as you see it doesn't look like the 2001-spaceship AT ALL. <!--emo&;)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/wink.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='wink.gif' /><!--endemo-->

Here's mine...

<a href='http://web.unbc.ca/~derksons/mymap.htm' target='_blank'>Here's a link to a horribly out of date webpage with pics of that craptastic map.</a>
This map was my first non-giant-skybox-of-doom map (and my first attempt at an NS map!) The concept was a base on the edge of a cliff. I did so many layout revisions...
I learned alot making this thing. But it was horribly inefficient. I made each light individually so I quickley ran into "too many lightfaces" errors... and leaks... and excessive use of 90 degree corners...
I ended up scrapping it because I just couldn't get areas to fit and feel natural. Ideas that looked good on paper were difficult to implement (and my fear of the vertex manipulation tool didn't help any.) The scale of an NS map was daunting too.
I ended up scrapping it... tried salvaging some for a co map I slapped together then decided it was all just crap and time to start from scratch. But working on the infestation in the hives I learned alot about null brushes and vertex manipulation and my current map looks far better for it. And even it I'm learning tonnes from.

I meant, mine sucks worse... perhaps I should have specified.

I really liked it...however something bad happened and I cant...oh NS 2.01 came out I think and **** up all my textures....
and by that time my steam was too far gone to go back thru and replace them all...
at least I think thats what it was...
its a <a href='http://webpages.charter.net/shentrax/shentrax/shentrax/demo.rar' target='_blank'>demo</a> i was making.
Keep in mind
1. its for halflife
2. it has some <b>violent </b>content (bloody gibs) <i>user discretion is advised</i>.
3. its like 3 years old.
Oh NO! not blood!!!! <!--emo&::nerdy::--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/nerd.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='nerd.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The map is ok. What goes on isn't very logical but it's far better than my first attempt! <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->
The big generator is actually a 'random event generator' The light panels on the wall light on/off depenting on the random event, same with the laser beam, its maily the random even generator.
Then, i think when a light turns on the monster_generator drops a scientist into the meat grinder.

Wow Drunken! I didnt know you were so new to mapping. I started mapping with WC 2.3 or so and now you are even much better that me
<img src='http://www.pericenrash.com/mendasp/mapas/de_fort/de_fort1.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />
I continued with CS mapping for a year and then around May 2002 blueman told me about NS and started... ns_phobia, although it has changed a lot <!--emo&:)--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/smile.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='smile.gif' /><!--endemo-->
That actually looked like a great beginning for a CS map.
I started to make a CS map within a jail... it fell through when i asked a best frient to help with parts of the map.. everything fell apart..
All the maps I've ever made end up failures, simply because I get bored with the game and/or mod by the time anything substantial is completed.
I used to go by the name "scioskulk," which I later dropped down to just "scio." I undertook a single map (still on NS World; no pics), ns_terminus. Well, basically I eventually tired of NS due to an increasing fixation on the cinema; the map was scrapped, and ultimately completely lost in a harddrive reformat.
Good news is that since 3.0 has reinvigorated my interest, I've begun making the map again.
Oh, and I'll always blame NS for making me scrap an awesome Venice-based CS map that was 25% complete. Damn you, NS! <!--emo&:angry:--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/mad.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='mad.gif' /><!--endemo-->
Man, I wish I still had some screenshots from those ol' things.
and its a as_map *ducks*

Good lord.... If reading the mapping guidelines could make me that good, then I'll do it!
(I hope it helps when you have no previous experience to mapping and JUST downloaded something...right..)
What guidelines did you read? I dont think the NS ones are a tutorial...are they?
