here's how you do it:

Open a compiler, no wait, first open your browser, find the file specs on both jpgs and bmps, and an algorithm to apply to raw pixel data. Then open your compiler, write a program that takes in bmps and makes them a nice long array of pixels. Then apply the algorithm to that, and write the result out in jpg format.

Hear that swooshing sound? That's the advice you just gave going WAY over my head.

well I didn't explicitly mention that the algorithm is one that'll make a lossy compression of the data... sorry

Anyway, just use photoshop or some other program to convert it.

I'm curious. Why the hell would a topic like this be called F5? That's just plain odd.

Oh and 5 seconds of Googling found this.

Well, the default screenshot key in Half-Life is f5. I assume that's where he got it.

You press F5 in Half Life to take a screenshot. They are made as .bmp files.

EDIT: Beat me to it ^^

Bah. F5 is for Quicksave. Always has been, always will be. F12 is Screenshot, so it is written and so shall it be.

First its this "lets change the team say team so that way teammates accidentially give plans to everyone!" garbage, and now they not only take away someone's quick save, they take a picture of their misfortune to endure throughout the ages!

I'm sick and tired of these Valve guys treading over our traditions and culture!

No, F-5 refers to the pain and the coming of the pain. And Hardcore Holly being shunted to the mid-card forever in one fell swoop. The F-5, therefore, is obviously a good thing.

IrfanView is also capable of going into 'capture' mode, which means you just press a button in the game to capture. And it can be set, where to save the shots and the type of them too (you can even set an auto timer).

He means when you take screenshots in HL.

I, for one, do not want to go through that tedious process every time I like a screenshot.
