There is no use of the apostrophe in english apart from at the end of a word, or in a shortening situation such as can't sort for cannot. Nowhere is there an apostrophe immediatley after the first letter of the word. The closest is 'cause, short for becasue

(some background info on the freind might help us: likes, dislikes, what subjects he studies/studied, where he is from, etc)

It almost looks Klingon or Elvish...but it can't suit either. It's just not...Elvish looking, and it doesn't look like the words are gruff enough for Klingon.

well i was thinking that if he was a star trek fan, it could well be klingon. If he had a mother from asia, it could well be some asian language.

It sounds more like a combination of several real and fantasy languages than any one language.

    Try Portugese German French ect.

Many of the words are from those languages

My guess is that it is a mix of languages

did your friend write this on paper? Were there any accent marks on any of the letters ect...

Ehh they're not french/german words, nor dutch, since I speak all three.

He wrote it in an IM window. I'm not sure if even he knows the answer, I'll ask him where it's from though.

I'm 90% sure it's from the Homeworld series.

I have a hunch that they are in an obscure language AND the letters are re-arranged.
