fighting the jerks one battle at a time
To preface, someone in our dorm is an absolute ****. This guy has drawn bleeding penises all over one of the bathroom stalls as well as comments about various people on the floor, drawn a swastika in sharpie on my friends whiteboard, drawn other little annoying **** on everyone's door decorations, and is probably the guy behind various thefts.
In our hall we have a very big whiteboard, which apparently this guy thought he could improve by drawing penises on it on a daily basis. Clearly it wasn't enough to use dry erase marker, so he moved on to sharpie.
I tried rubbing alcohol for a while with negligible results, and considering that any significant amount of work I put into it could be undone with minimal effort, I gave up.
Then today I found a technique online for removing sharpie. If you ever need to do this, here is what you do.
Draw over the sharpie liberally with dry erase marker, the wetter the better. Give it a second to mix, and wipe off the dry erase marker. The sharpie will come with it!
This has single handedly made my week.

Install a hidden cam somewhere near the whiteboard. It's not illegal (i think), and you can get one jackass off your hands.

I'm pretty certain it is illegal (in the UK anyway). Hell, my driving instructor was saying that he wasn't allowed to have a CCTV camera covering his own garage in his own property without paying a hefty fee.
Still, if it tracks the idiot down go ahead. If it doesn't work then no one has to know who set it up

The UK also has cameras all over the place, don't they?
I think you can set up cameras in the USA, because you always see on these hidden camera shows how they catch people by setting one up.
I've thought about setting up my webcam, but it happens infrequently enough and in enough different places that it wouldn't really be worth it. It would be a hell of a lot of footage to go through daily. I'm pretty sure its legal in the US though, so long as the person is in public.
We're pretty sure we know who it is, but there isn't much we can do about it. Our RA isn't to keen on taking action without incontrovertible proof. The guy we suspect is also pretty big, so resorting to violence would be a bit of an endeavor. However, we're pretty sure he's smoking weed regularly in his room, considering how frequently he's burning incense in there to cover up the smell, so we might just be able to get him kicked out for that and solve the problem tangentially.
I'm not sure, but unfortunately that might weed out a few people that I dont have any problem with.
CAs (probably like your RAs) aren't allowed to enter anyones room without permission. They're not legally responsible for anything directly either, so they can't give you tickets for drinking, just force you to pour it out (...which if you don't then they get to call campus security).
If it is illegal (which I highly doubt), just pretend it's as if you brought a camcorder outside and 'forgot' to turn it off . Lots of schools have cameras here, and they don't bother telling the students about them (though they are rather obvious).
Sharpie = bad . Or the big permanent marker, those're bad too.
You would think that when you go to college you would find more mature people...but all I ever saw was the same old immaturity from high school multiplied by a factor due to the fact that they don't live at home anymore and can be complete jackasses now....i hate humanity.
Oh, and in the US, I think it is legal to have a camera, just your not allowed to record audio...
Also, you can just claim you left it like that accidently, nobody can say otherwise.
