I was playing on a server i like. It was a tense game, we had 3 hives but the marines were looking very likely to take one or two down. Then this votemap menu comes up. five votes are enough for co_pulse, im pretty sure that not all of us even got the chance to vote. It was a good fun game and then bam co_pulse. Was the result a foregone conclusion?....Not at all, the marines held alot of the map and had hmg's and gl's, no one had attacked their base, we had no onos and no fades. Its just **** me off that they ruined a good game to play combat.
Please do NOT do this in the middle of a good game, its incredably annoying.

For instance, *NTFM* server 1 and 2 both have public map voting disabled. The only people who can cause a map change on those servers are the admins and subscribers (people who donated money to the server). If you'd like more information go to their forums.
Not much you can do about it otherwise.
They vote.. nothing you can do about it.
Quit adn find a decent server

Servers with maxplayers set to anything lower than 20 at the lowest are just no fun. Both CO and NS.
Just my opinion though.

I can't remember where I read this, but I believe the target # of players tested for optimum balance is :
12-16 for Classic
6+ for Combat (fairly scalable now)
One of the biggest problems I have with Classic (and have since I started playing) was the lack of scalability when it comes to # of players. If you have the recommended # of players for Classic the outcome is up in the air for much of the game on just about any map. If you get any more or less than that then the game gets heavily biased towards one team depending on the map. In a way this is just as much a deficiency in the balancing of maps as in the core scalability of NS itself, but I really wouldn't mind seeing some sort of stat scalability applied depending on how many people are on the server and/or on the opposing team. That way with more people on the server stats can be generally lowered in increments to make for slightly quicker games, and for games where stacking occurs a small force would be statistically equivalent to the larger force thus giving them a chance in the case that half the team leaves in search of a co_ map or 'rines stack to as much as a 3 man disparity as I see all too often.
Just a sidenote... I'd REALLY like to see a setting for servers to make "random" team selection mandatory in order to prevent team stacking.
Look, what's the harm in starting a mapvote? You'll lose a whole 3 seconds of your life if you decide to vote on something. Vote fails? No biggie. If the vote passes, there was significant support of the mapchance, so it's selfish of you to get upset that other people wanted to play something else.

Five people, from what Ive heard so far, shouldnt decide what map people go to on a fifteen player server.
The votemap should come up at the end of the game. Its too bad that your stuck on a map you dont like, because it could be someone elses favorite map.
but for pub NS games, or any type of game, i prefer small numbers of players, to me its fun being the negotiating marine for the temp peace proposal, or trying to be sneaky and get that other guy in the belltower waiting for you to go across the street (DoD)
but the thing that pisses me off the most of all if CC walls and diversions, whoever thought of that should be drugged onto the street and shot, and i feel almost the same for that Autowin thing, God...
back the voting topic...
EVEryone here HAS to admit its really annoying when you were playing CO for 3 straight hours and your "FINALLY A real map is next...metal.." and as soon as the map loads... VOTEMAP CORE!!!... and back to the 3hr cycle...........
If your talking about the amx or adminmod one, go complain in their forums.. noone here will do much
It won't help. People will just have a key bound to join the team that they want to join.

Are you talking about mp_autoconcede (set to 4 by default)? I am glad that is in the game. When the game has been going for a minute or two and I can tell the teams are going to stay with three more players on the other team, I will generally F4 just to end the game so it can start over with balanced teams.
They don't though. I was in a game a couple of days ago, and within about 20 seconds everyone had joined teams, and the teams were 6v3. I know small games are balanced toward aliens, but 6v3 is ridiculous. I commented on the teams once, but I was ignored. I complained again, and still no one listened. Then I used F4 to end the game, about 2 minutes in. A new game was started, same map, with balanced teams.
