I'd propose a fairly simple system to get rid of people spamming each other with grenades to protect against melee aliens.
Smart grenades - grenades that refuses to hurt marines.
If a grenade explodes too close to a marine, the grenade automatically tunes its explosion to minimize the marine damage. Exactly how can be debated, but simplest might be to halve the explosion force if any marines are inside some chosen range.
