Get in line bud, wannabe modelers who expect help are dime a dozen. If you're incapable of going out there and finding help yourself and actually working to get good, you probably don't have what it takes to be a modeler.

In addition to what's previously said, I would personally suggest you get Milkshape3d and use that, not gmax. More game-compatible, as well as you get a better sense of what you're doing instead of creating extrutions of splines that form horriblly placed polygons. so go to www.milkshape3d.com and get milkshape, then check the webbed topics above for usefull tutorials, there are hundreds listed.

Also, though Milkshape requires you to pay for it after 30 days' use, it's really very cheap ($25 I think at the moment) and it's the easiest program to learn on if you're wanting to make game models, imo.

as well the second best program is 3dsm and is about 2/300 times as much as MS3D. I'm sure it's 25 atm as well.

whats with you guys? why cant you just help him? I stopped modeling because you guys wont help anybody. I got into mapping, and the guys over there are great. i ask a question, they answer it in a helpfull way. ive already got half the map done, and i started 3 days ago.

Help him out, you were a n00b too, once.

Well I personally just screwed around untill i figured it out, never really needed help. And what i did get from tutorials were random ones found with google and or yahoo, which is why i suggested that. Besides you most likely had specific questions. Ambiguous ones like how do i model like this, get ambiguous answers, sorry.

I suggest getting to know MS3D before trying to model anything specific. Then once you start to model, What I do is take a profile picture of the gun i want to model, make a cube, then extrude where i need to. It also helps to have the 3d viewport in flatshade becuase shading groups are screwed up when you extrude.

Truer words have never been said. I desperately wanted to model but you guys didnt help me at all. Now I've gotta map instead and that dream has died. The mapping forum actually do answer questions, unlike this one.

Here's me shooting non helpful people:

im noob too, but i try to find something by my own instead of asking everything.
the answer may be the first search result on google! just try it damn....
btw its alot faster to find some tutorials then asking for them! some people are just too lazy.

I think the whole we dont give advice is blown out of proportion. I mean, if you have a specific question about something in MS3D, like shading group problems, or something that's a little less ambiguous than how do i model, then a better answer then 'tutorials' will be supplied. I have no problem with helping someone out, that is if they already know partially what they are doing. It's just too much of a hassle to try and explain EVERYTHING to someone, let alone everyone, who wants to learn how to model. Like I could start throwing out what I do, but then the beginner would be lost trying to follow me. So again, i suggest finding some tutorials (I'll find some GOOD ones for you here in a minute) learning the basics of MS3D and then try some gun modelling, then if you need help, we will.

    <a href='http://www.psionic3d.co.uk/tutorials/lowpoly/mbasics.html' target='_blank'>Milkshape Basics</a>
    <a href='http://www.psionic3d.co.uk/lowtuts.html' target='_blank'>page of tuts</a>(first one is linked above)

I cant find much more right now... read the basics one right now. and then, try a gun with my method, a right or left view of the gun, make a box and extrude where needed.

I was indeed a noob once. And instead of asking another to "teach me how to model" (which isn't even possible), I went out and got a program, looked up some tutorials, and practiced. I never once expected help from anyone but myself, and if you're serious about learning to model you should expect the same.

models.firearmsmod.com has the best tutorials to start out with. i suggest starting with converting models so you get to know how a model would generaly run, then learn how to model yourself. milkshape 3d is 900000x easier to learn than any other program (in my opinion)

also there is NO tutorial that will show you how to actualy put a model into a game, so i suggest you listen to what i just said.

i wouldnt say that. It's hard to learn, easy to use once you do.

I learnt how to model from expreience, just trying out stuff until i got it.

Bashh is right you can't just teach someone how to model you have to find out your self, its like saying how teh fuxor do i type so fastoz, simple PRACTICE. To find something you firstly should do:
    Check stickies
    Search
    Use a search engine
THEN POST And how many times hav ei seen people say in their topic "OMG I LOKED EVRYWHERE!! FF!!" When they just looked at the front page, this isn't a flame. Its the truth.
