New guy/ new map

hmm, mapping experience about 1 year and I get to suffer the GeForce2 curse. Well, I've got 2 ideas so far; an airbase locked between the tops of 2 cliffs and a military base inside the cliff with about 5 or 6 levels of elevation. Tho, that many floors will dengerously #### the commander off. My other idea would be a city of skyscrapers connected by bridges, someareas military acting as marines' zone. Others are apartments, libraries, shopping centers; all positioned high above any land. I haven't got an outline or any background ready so I'll hold off with posting anything in the ns world.

I like your idea about the skyscrapers, but I'm not totally sure it would fit in with the theme of NS. Though if done right, I bet it could.

About the 5-6 levels in the military base... I don't think you'd want to do that. Even if they were not level-over-level, the commander view is set at a static, non-changing height. If you set the height at a normal and pleasant distance from the top level, it would be quite a ways down when over the bottom level. You would have a framerate nightmare on your hands.

yea stick with the one floor at a time, you could change levels but dont over lay them.

what you could do is instead of doing 5 or 6 levels, you could do 5 or 6 major areas connected to each other in a linear form (like levels) which would make for some interesting gameplay.
