<div class="IPBDescription">Which one was removed from the release?</div> Subject says it all. Which one (or both) was removed offically? NS_Hera or NS_Bast? And why?

i believe only bast was removed

the map was not onos friendly and they couldnt modify the map because they lost the source....

onos unfriendly ala engine hive..... marines + engine hive + grenade launchers = no onos going in

It seems strange to me considering there are maps that are more onos unfriendly, for example caged, and depending on your viewpoint, origin.

doesnt matter, its being remade and they are going at it really fast. It could even be done before the final version of 3.0 gets done.

Hope so, it was one of my favourites. Was the first map I played NS on, actually.

once a long long time ago i though bast was great , it had everything a <b>big</b> lift, a spinny door thing , and even had a huge hive room to fly about.
but by playing 2.0 its fairly easy to tell where someone will seige from also trying to get out to the aft junction if u dont relocate was rather bad.

    as supernorn said

hope its got a fair amount of changes to give it back some exitement.

I always thought bast should be heavily modified or removed just due to the fact that it's.. a bad map.

hopefully the remakers take some liberties and change marine spawn, and all the hives atleast a little.

aside from refinery, which is way over-sized, all the hives are HORRIBLE.

completely counter-intuitive design. we need maps that make for fun games, not a giant hazard course.

Because the older NS players love Bast. It was the first full NS map to be completed, and has been with us as a favorite since v1.0... and most of us want it back. Same thing with Nancy; which is why IT was recreated.

Old maps don't die. Their source may be lost, but in us they live on.

A better question would be, what happened to ns_delta? I thought they are including it in 3.0?
  • UnderDOGUnderDOG Join Date: 2003-04-05 Member: 15221Members
Was delta the one that had architecture similar ns_Tanith, maybe even made by the same guy?

Bast is a great map, but very hard for rhines, if you want to win as rhine you need to relocate to double res in atmos or to main afk junction.
If you stay in marine start you almost always loose.

Hera is my favourite map, because no side has a great advantage, and it is just fun!
  • im_lostim_lost TWG Rule Guru Join Date: 2003-04-26 Member: 15861Members
Most people consider hera to be a map where marines have to relocate, because there are no res nodes near marine start.
  • Prometheus1Prometheus1 Join Date: 2004-02-01 Member: 25928Members
Yes I agree of course, most ppl relocate to reception or to holo, but you still can win if you stay in ms but then you need to get rts fast and electrify them.

There is just one problem in hera, that you can siege 2 hives from one position (processing). In 1.04 rhines always tried to relocate to processing.

But it is still fun to play hera!

I think people loved bast due to its unique design. One of my all time favourite games was to relocate to the vent below feedwater and then tell everyone to rush up the ladders and kill the hive. All the aliens were like WTH OMG <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> Great game, and probably the quickest marine win ever <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

    hehe

I loved Bast. My favourate marine tactic was to relocate to the green corridor at the back of refinery hive, fortify that position, and then build pg/tf/siege in tram corridor, and siege feedwater from there.

I've also sieged feedwater many times from the vent above tram tunnel, and its taken the aliens bloody ages to work it out!

    Refinery will be a fantastic hive for the lerks now <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo-->

ah bast so many memories. My 2nd NS game ever was played here. Right after nancy <!--emo&:D--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/biggrin.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='biggrin.gif' /><!--endemo--> . I rmember taking my squad and I (only 2nd game eve rof 1.0 not knowing what to do. Talking the big lift down to the bottom and Opening those Blast doors for the first time into the Unknown. Felt like ALIENS.

    SO many great games, marine reloaction 6 times to eventual win, including building the CC on top of the refinery hive <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo--> <!--emo&:p--><img src='http://www.unknownworlds.com/forums/html//emoticons/tounge.gif' border='0' style='vertical-align:middle' alt='tounge.gif' /><!--endemo-->

In fact just the other night we had an an old epic loooong game.

ALiens were down to one 1/4 built hive at one point. We had to drop a grand total of 17 Hives lol. But we finaly won.

Im glad its in the remake.

Hera is just parsed out in the default mapcycle.txt, presumably because it's such a marine-raping-session at the moment (with the worlds most Lerk friendly Marine spawn) that it's just a joke to play.

    Not mine.
    ns_processing must dai.

Happy to see ns_bast come back in a more balanced version.
(ns_bast is the one with the double node "Atmospheric Processing", easy to remember with it's huge ceiling pipe with really really bright light, and the "Feedwater hive", really small and almost completely infested: generally unfriendly to everything, that hive...)

I don't even imagine NS without Bast of Hera!
Bast on Marine start must have a little more wide entrances.
