After release
I'm aware that after NS has been released, the PT forum group will be changed to Veteran or something like that. I was wondering, will something similar be happening for non-PT NS pre-release followers? Like everyone who joined before the release date gets to be in their own group like "NS Fan" or "TSA Marine" or something cool. Just so after NS gets really big and the forums are flooded with newcomers, the pre-release fans who joined too late to be a PT get some kind of reward (besides being the first to play NS, of course).

I'm also aware that something like this was discussed in a previous thread, but I'm not sure if this exact topic was brought up or not, and I'm not bright enough to use the Search option .

Sounds like a decent idea, newbies will be able to refer to the "Group:" thingo to see if the person giving the info actually has some idea as to what they're talking about instead of referring to the highly irrelevant post count.

Maybe set the group to "Beta 1 NS fan" or something, assuming that the initial release of NS will be called beta 1.

I'd imagine that the PT forum won't be going anywhere. just because NS releases doesn't mean they will stop work on it, and hence stop needing a testing related private forum :P

Because we all will be testing the game then, there will be no more need for a private forum. We all will be playtesteres, thereby greatly increasing the quality and quantity of input to the developers.

I also oppose the idea of separating the community into different groups. It would fuel elitism, not unity.

no CD, everybody is NOT gonna be a playtester. nor will they want to be.

PTing is actual work most of the time, not just fun and games. Also, most people aren't going to want to get a new patch every few days that might end up breaking the game and making it completely unplayable till the new patch is out...

so yes, there will still be a big use for PT's..

though i am all for keeping the community united and NOT segmented though. In my past experience I've seen nothing but bad things coming from makign distinctions among some players from others. But so far that's been pretty minimal here heh. :)

That's an argument for conducting playtests before releasing a new version, but why should these tests not be open for anyone who wants to participate?

DoD has had much success with testing their updates via Steam. The mod version would stay stable release, and Steam the latest 'beta'.

Because there's no reason to have 1 billion people posting about bug X when we can do it on our own.

Same reasons for not letting everyone test NS right now.

Well, just because 1 mod does it, doesn't mean every mod has to. Don't get me wrong, Steam is a great concept, and I'm sure it's worked wonders for DoD and CS, but personally, I'd be less interested in playtesting new NS updates if the testing community ballooned (like it would if this were the case) to a point where I might be playing games with people I'd never seen before. The community aspect is very important in the testing, in my opinion.

Besides, I've always felt uncomfortable giving out unpolished versions of my work (any work) to people I didn't know. I can only imagine that other people (like Flayra, maybe) might feel the same way.
