Since were on the subject have you seen the trailer for the new Appleseed their doing?
I think their using that "Cel Shading" stuff some of the Custom Alien models have (You know the kind where it looks like they always have an outline...like in XIII.
yup.. have seen it.. but its quiet around it now... the first movie kinda sucked... (/me hugs my complete appleseed manga collection) i think the new one will rock... like stand alone complex now... I think thats partially due to the fact they actually stuck with something close to Shirow's art Style.

I hate to be a killjoy, but there's really no point to this model if you can't pull the poly count down to a reasonable number -- 2000, 3000 tops.
Look for details that can be scrapped and illustrated in the skin -- e.g. reduces the screws to hexagons and get rid of the grooves in them! The complexity around the triggers could easily be skinned, and the rails on top as well. The barrel of the GL looks kinda messy, too (though it's hard to say with the interpolation). Let's see a flat-shaded model, eh?
It's a great-looking model, and it'd be great to have it in NS... but there's no point if the polycount is through the roof.
ok i redid the handle i it cut down 1500 polies so im now down to 4500 polies still trying to figure out were all the polies went to heres a flat shaded one like coil asked for each of the screws are 20 polies and the entire stock in the back is less than 200 so im still confused and if anyone knows how they can optomize this any better let me know and ill send you the max file so you can see what you can do with it
In other words the Skin should probally take place of the majority of those holes and cuts in the gun...
well i got great news i reduced the PC down to 2700 so i guess its useable now i pretty much deleted all back faces craped up the barrel and the nade launcher but it still looks good but this thing needs a realy good skin or else youll notice how crappy it is

but like the Side heat releasers could really just be done by the skin

i tried to mesh this myself and everything went bad i gotta say skinmeshing is one of the most confusing things in teh universe IF ANYONE CAN MESH PLEASE MESH THIS!!!
I would try and mesh it, but it would turn out, all, ugly, strected and unskinable, the only thing i have come close to meshing properly was drakes shotgun which was never released, this model looks like it will have the same fate.
Well I must step out and say, that is one fine mofo of a model. I'm glad Sheena likes, cause that makes the love for it all the better. Indeed Shirow has some truly awesome concepts. It's scary that they all would pretty much work if tried in real life.
As for poly cutting, which I hope to GOD that you can get it under control, you seem to be on the right track for the heating vents. (holes) Any holes like that you can use the beauty of the new transparency rendering for models for. You could even theoritically make the rail's grooves up on top of the handle with transparencies too. Make the entire top rail a block, and skin trans spaces where the spaces are modeled now. Should cut across the top. Another tactic of apply trans is the hole in the middle of the top handle and in the grips. (where you hand slips into) As others have said, it's a bit block back there (not complaining, you prob wont see it in-game anyways) which could be good. Because it's so block now and if you don't plan on smoothing them out, just fill in the hole and make it one piece. Then apply that lovely trans skin again to make the "hole" Voila. New grip and handle receiver. From the renders they already look straight, nothing curvy so using a skin trans won't hurt it if pulled off correctly. That bolt is bad-**** but I'm sure it's killing the poly count too. But I love it as is. Try those trans methods out, see how they help. If anything else and worse comes to worse, you may have to skin alot of the small stuff on, like the raised edges on the receiver or something. Maybe even cut the ridges in the mag. But try those first tips out, I hope you don't drop this one... Too many good concept guns have come and gone stagnant here... Did that Plasma Rifle thingy ever get released?

i have to create enough space for the internals, the battery, the gearbox and so on.
ive also to improove the ergonomics of the weapon.. sometimes a weapon looks on a picture more comfortable to hold than it realy is in reallife.
i dont take any credit for it, only for the work ive done on it (many drawings got shreddet in this progress) and thats not much. ive taken the 2 year old vectorized lineart ive done, and colored it. so be nice to me, im not really allowed to post something like that here. these are hush hush projects ,and will maybe never gettin in production , mostly to expensive to produce... the "moon net 23 " weapon was a good example... it was fun to redesign, and a honor for me and our company. but it was one of our most expensive replicas ever.

I'm getting a Radeon 9800 XT put in my computer soon, so High-Poly won't be any kind of a problem for me
And yeah, reduce poleys nau!
each of the screws are 20 polies and the entire stock in the back is less than 200 so im still confused and if anyone knows how they can optomize this any better let me know and ill send you the max file so you can see what you can do with it

The grenade launcher: You can DEFINATELY make that less polies.
You could also lessen it on the actual gun barrel- chances of someone noticing it when its that far away is small.
Basically, both those barrel types are WAAAAAY too intricate.
Also the heat-panel hole thingies(whatever those are) can be reduces poly wise probably. They alone look like 20-40.
The screws also look like they could go way down.
And lastly- have you (litterally) removed the other side of the gun? That could cut polies BIGTIME.
and ill try and get rid of the screws and stuff
