It's pretty simple. All lifeforms loose all their armor before they loose all their life, and armor takes 2 pts of damage for every point of armor lost. So an 700 health, 600 armor onos will take 1200 hits to the armor and 700 hits to health before dying... ie, 1900 life total.
There are a few minor tweaks ... armor absorbs 70% of all incoming damage for LA, while HA absorbs 95%.
Aliens armor absorbs 2 pts at hive 1, 2.5 pts at hive 2, and 3 pts at hive 3. So at hive three, an onos has 2500 life rather than the 1900 it has at hive 1. The percentage of damage going for armor also goes up a bit with the hives, to ensure that all armor is depleted before the alien dies even at hive 3.
