suprisingly great movie
Tonight I went and saw The Butterfly Effect, that new movie w/ the guy who plays Kelso on That 70's Show.

Suprisngly, he was actually very very very good in a dramatic role. Not only was it dramatic, his character was also SMART. Its like watching a completely different actor.

The movie itself is very cool. Very wierd in placing, slightly shocking in a few scenes, and a lot more unpredictable than you'd think if you've seen the trailers.

Definately worth the price of a movie ticket if you enjoy movies. Its quite refreshing to see a movie that's quite different than other stuff out there.

What's the general gyst of it? He can control time, and he tries to correct things but fails in something else goes wrong, right?

Maggie and I went and saw it the weekend it came out and she already is pestering me about seeing it again. Great movie, really had me thinking afterwards. Apparently there's another ending on hold for the DVD; I'm eager to see what direction that took.

    I highly recommend it

Liku: Kinda, but not really. I could explain it, but that would kinda ruin the movie. The manner its presented in is definately a freaky one though.

KFS: Ohhh alternate ending. I have an idea of just what that might be too. Won't post it here though.

My rating for the movie is: "meh".

I don't know exactly what it was about the movie that I didn't like, but something didn't seem right about it. I'm sorry for the very undescriptive criticism about it, but I hope you know what I'm talking about.

The story was ok, kind of a bit predictable at times, and didn't seem like it fit at other times, but it wasn't bad.

The acting was ok, although I'd rather not have Kelso in another movie.

    The suspense was alright.

Maybe the reason for me not really liking the movie was just that all of these were "ok", and not "phenomenal".

From all the reviews so far, it seems like this movie would suck.....

The critics have been bashing the hell out of it...

    I thought it was entertaining.

    Not oscar-material, but still good.

At least on strength of the critics around where I live, that seems to be their job. I've seen so many critics bash excellent movies, such as The Matrix (yeah, the first one).

Critics will bash any movie with brains that refuses to fall into their 'smart' categories - and seeing that the Butterfly Effect is a fantasy flick not created by a major director, it does not.
Now when will it be released over here?

i thought it might be good. i was gonna see it with this chiek, but then i was thinking.. the new york times totally bashed it, i hear.

so i read the review, and all they complain about is "surprisingly graphic scenes" etc.. no complaints of "ashton cootcher is.. a cootcher" or something like that, about bad acting.

so i guess i'll check it out. if that chiek hasn't disappeared from my imagination yet.

That idiot who reviews movies for MSN didn't seem to like it so it must be half-decent.
The more he dislikes a movie for artsy, snobbish and baffling reasons, the more assured I can be that it will actually be a movie I'd like to see.

While the movie is no chick flick, a couple parts of it may get them all into put-out-later mode, so taking one to said flick is advisable. :P

As far as suprisingly graphic, well he does get a bloody nose... There are other more graphic parts that would spoil the movie, however they don't actually show anything (rather they let you imagine it yourself) and those scenes contain hardly any blood, if any at all.

So yeah, go check it out...

I WOULD go see it, but I'm gorunded indefinetly. I know this is major spoilerage request, but I'm really curious. Since I am aware of the original Butterfly Effect Theory (If a butterfly flaps its wings, it could be causing a tornado somewhere else) Maybe someone could sum it up for me? (PM me). I just want to see if they just took a time travel movie and a random Chaos Theory phrase and coupled them together.

I'm in nitpick mode right now, so I'll point out that you shortened the initial butterfly theorem, whichs popular version went along the lines of "If a butterfly in the Amazonas Delta flaps its wings, this slight change in air pressure may be the last of an incalculably vast amounts of arbitrary influences that amount in a tornado wreaking havoc on the East Coast.". OK, so I am anally retritive right now. It's 2 am, sue me

but is it worth seeing in a theater? you see, I'd see a movie like Star wars or the matrix in a theater, because it's part of the experience - those kinds of movies are all about breathtaking shots. but how about this one? You can only stare at a HUGE HEAD for so long. I'll wait for VHS.

I went to see this last night with the GF and a couple she's friends with. I wasn't exactly excited to see the film after seeing the previews but, I figured "what the hell".
I was surprisingly entertained. I was interested through the whole movie and wanted to know what would happen next and why it was happening. There was even a handy (adult content) shot
And afterwards we were on about discussing the "what if" choices we made that could have changed who we are today. I concluded that spending so much time "thinking" about "what if?" was a one way ticket to a stomach ulcer.

I would say it's definately worth a rental but otherwise pay full price if you have nothing else to do and nothing else to see.

I loved this movie! I went to see it a week or so ago, and it was absolutely awesome. It's one of those movies that all the critics hate because they're not smart enough to understand it.
