Thing one: If noone has already done it, bars with water flowing right beneath it(like a whole corridor), kinda like aliens. Then there could be holes here and there in the bars so you can climb in or out of the water.
Thing two: Theres a certain texture that seems to be a bit overused, I often see it in map pics where it doesnt really fit. Its like small oval shaped things on a metal plate. Just my opinion.

Thing One : sounds ok...but, I'm not sure of the logistics of aliens swimming... don't know if they can or if it is a problem... that's something that a dev team member would have to answer
